ACT’s suburb of Franklin is to receive a beginner’s element attached to a junior playground – not a skatepark as indicated in the June Chronicle newspaper.
Thanks to Redbox design group for the following info:
“We recognise the need in the community to provide opportunities for the very beginner skater and bike rider to develop the necessary skills to facilitate the transition to the more complex regional skateparks which are found in the City, Yerrabi, Belconnen, Weston, Woden and Tuggeranong. We envisage providing an innovative concrete disc with transitions that vary across its diameter allowing an experience of shallow transition to more beginner level transitions. There are no fall zones in this design; all the activity is theoretically on ground. This is a space where a parent, an older brother or sister can pass on skills and technique in a purpose built surround. We have been able to provide shade cover to this space.”
