Function Venues for Birthday Parties in Canberra?

By jambamafi - 27 August 2012 8

I am looking for ideas for function venues for a birthday party later on in the year.

I estimate there will be around 60 people, and would prefer somewhere within 10 minutes of the city (ie. Dickson, Kingston, Manuka, Ainslie etc) and don’t want to break the bank either!

Also, somewhere that has limited steps due to frail family members attending is a must.

Besides that, I am open to ideas.

Thanks in advance 🙂

What’s Your opinion?

For DIY and rustic – Yarralumla woolshed is a unique and interesting venue, well priced as well. http://www.tams.act.gov.au/city-services/act_property_group/yarralumla_woolshed

If your after something slightly sporty and different, there is a new venue in Mitchell called Smash Table Tennis. http://www.smashtabletennis.com.au
They allow BYO drinks and food or pop in and have a chat to the owner to maybe arrange catering

We had a family function at the Kamberra Winery for about 70 people a year ago and it was fantastic.

Canberra Bowls Club in Griffith is nice and very reasonably priced (or was a couple of years ago). You get the whole venue to yourself and they do either a cash bar or a tab. Has facilities for a BBQ but anything fancier than that you’d need to bring in (they have a kitchen if you wish to DIY).
Don’t seem to have a website but it’s on Hobart Ave, Griffith.

If you’re interested in DIY, try the Corroboree Park Hall in Ainslie:

try Ivy Cafe at Old Canberra House at the ANU. Beautiful old building with no stairs and views of the lake and Black Mountain with lots of green area for the kids to run around. Check it out at:

How much is not breaking the bank?

It may be too much for your planned budget, but Water’s Edge could otherwise be fantastic.
