Hawker carjacking.

By Charlotte - 8 June 2011 30

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery in which a car was stolen at Hawker shops last night (Tuesday, June 7).

About 11.40pm two men parked in Hawker Place—behind a white Holden Commodore—to use an automatic teller machine. There were three men standing outside the Commodore and a woman in the driver’s seat.

The owner of the car returned to his vehicle when he saw one of the men standing near his car, which had the keys in the ignition and engine running. An altercation occurred between the victim and male offender and the victim was punched in the face. The offender then got into the victim’s vehicle, a white Nissan Skyline and drove off onto Springvale Drive towards Coulter Drive.

The first offender is described as male, wearing a white jumper and blue Adidas tracksuit pants with white stripes.

The second offender is described as male, with blond hair, pale skin and wearing a black jumper with green tracksuit pants.

The third offender is described as male, chubby with a kiwi accent, wearing a grey hooded jumper and jeans.

The female driver of the Commodore had dark-coloured hair.

Anyone who may be able to assist police with the investigation are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I hope to see more of the Empire……very cool.

I just realised I left the link to the pic out of my earlier post, possibly making it confusing to anyone who hasn’t been at Hawker lately…

FFS I hate to swear on my first contribution to RiotAct but will posters please read the article properly – “About 11.40pm two men parked in Hawker Place” – the guy left the car running and keys in cause his mate was sitting there, we all do this when ducking into a shop or ATM. I assume his mate got out, no report of a kidnapping!

At roughly midnight, you would have your car running with your mate inside or alternatively stay in the car, you’re gutsy (or gutless). I would escort my friend to the ATM if it was that late especially with a seedy looking vehicle hanging around.

Really? Keys in the ignition? 11:40PM? In a junkie neighbourhood? F*** it, no witnesses come forward, a valuable lesson as been taught here, only time will tell if it has been learned.

What?!?! Check your facts mate. Hawker may have a varied demographic near the shops but it is in the top 20 suburbs in Australia.

You tell me to check my facts, then you agree with me. You must be some sort of scientician

Several shops and businesses were graffiti-ed a few weeks ago.

I hope to see more of the Empire……very cool.

…and with electricity, fuel, etc going up almost daily in Australia…

The trick is to steal a car which already has fuel in it.

Given the cost of living in Canberra is amongst the highest in the country, how do these junkies and no-hopers afford to live here? Having moved to canberra recently and finding that rents are at criminally high rates (pardon the pun) and with electricity, fuel, etc going up almost daily in Australia, I have been really surprised to encounter this class of folks can afford to stay in Canberra. Is there something I am missing?

Yup, if I was underbelly Canberra and a seedy type, I’d probably do it somewhere warmer than a cold Canberra winter. I hear Darwin is really nice this time of year.

I think that’s exactly why they have to do so much thieving/stealing! Probably explains why there’s more of it happening every day too…

And yet, curiously, these people generally seem to have money for smokes, grog, and often drugs.
