A 44-year-old Kaleen man has been fined $1,811 and lost six demerit points after police stopped him and issued an infringement notice for speeding along Aikman Drive, Belconnen yesterday afternoon.
Shortly before 5.00pm, General Duties members from Belconnen Station conducting radar speed detection along Aikman Drive observed a black Holden Commodore SSV sportswagon travelling at speed.
Their radar reading of the vehicle’s speed indicated it was travelling at 125km/h, 65km/h over the posted speed limit.
Officer in Charge of the Belconnen Station, Sergeant Matthew Corbitt said given the time the offence occurred, it’s extremely fortunate there wasn’t a serious collision or fatality involving the motorist.
“People who believe that it’s okay to travel at excessive speeds on our roads need to realise the danger that they are putting themselves and other
road-users in by their behavior. This type of irresponsible act will not be tolerated by ACT Policing,” Sergeant Corbitt said.ACT Policing will continue to target speeding motorists until the end of July with targeted operations all over Canberra.
