Two residents of Kambah have had a lucky escape from a fire that started in the bedroom of their home tonight.

ACT Fire & Rescue were alerted to the fire shortly before 10:00pm after the occupants were alerted to the fire by the activation of smoke alarms. The occupants were able to evacuate safely and call Emergency Triple Zero (000) for assistance.

Two fire pumpers, one command vehicle and the breathing apparatus support unit attended the scene and quickly contained the fire to the area of origin. The hazardous materials support unit is also attending the scene to conduct atmospheric monitoring.

Firefighters are now ventilating the property before investigating the damage to the home. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

ACT Fire & Rescue wish to remind ACT residents to regularly maintain smoke alarms by keeping them clean and in good working order. If your home does not currently have working smoke alarms please seriously consider having smoke alarms installed and contact your local fire stations for advice.
