Just a quick update regarding the appeal that we started last week for Liu Jun and Tsou Kuei Hsiang who died, last Tuesday, from eating poison mushrooms on NYE.

We have now raised around $18,000 in donations – a truly heartwarming response from the Australian community.

Donations have come from all over the country and from all walks life – in times of tragedy and grief Australians really step up to the plate – Makes me so proud to call this land my home and you my friends (tear in eye).

Liu Jun and Tsou Kuei Hsiang would be totally blown away by the helping hand of mostly strangers and I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting their families in this awful time.

With Liu Jun’s family in Canberra, I can really see the level of disbelief and sorrow on their faces and in their hearts regarding their awful loss and how such a simple mistake could have such major consequences for so many people.

We must ensure that this never happens again and that we pull out all stops to this end, I would hate to go through or have anyone else go through the week that has just transpired – the deaths, grief, sorrow, bureaucracy, international travel, non comprehension of a completely foreign; country, language, legal systems, geography, people and expense.

To say that this week has rocked me and Liu Jun and Tsou Kuei Hsiang’s family and friends to the core would be a gross understatement. The thing that has kept us going is the memory of our friends and everyone’s amazing and ongoing support.

Thank you in particular to;

  • My family and friends in particular for digging so deep in so many ways – I would not have been able to soldier on without your support

There are hundreds of people that have helped in their own sweet way and if I have not mentioned anyone in particular please know I have not forgotten you, it has been a blur.

There will be a couple of additional updates but I will be leaving to China early Sunday morning and will be mainly contactable by email at; tomneilodea@lycos.com. If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.
