Man, 40, dies in hospital after colliding with tree near Yass

A 40-year-old man who was critically injured in a car accident on the Hume Highway near Yass on Saturday morning died at Canberra Hospital yesterday.

At about 7.30am on Saturday, the man was driving a white Mitsubishi Lancer north along the Hume Highway near Bowning (about 15km north west of Yass) when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

Witnesses went to the assistance of the driver before he was treated by ambulance paramedics and taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

According to a statement from NSW Police, the man died at the hospital yesterday.

Officers from The Hume Local Area Command continue to investigate the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
