New playground equipment was installed at the Braidwood Recreation Ground less than a week ago, and vandals have already left their calling card.
Queanbeyan police have been informed and are seeking information that may assist their investigations.
The graffiti was discovered on Tuesday morning, 24 September, and is most likely to have occurred overnight.
A Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council spokesperson said all involved with the equipment are extremely disappointed.
“Council staff and contractors undertaking the installation of the new playground equipment are very disappointed to find the graffiti on what will be a valuable community asset and source of enjoyment for many children and families in Braidwood,” the spokesperson said.
“We ask people of Braidwood to stay vigilant and report any incidents of this nature to the relevant authorities.
“The townspeople of Braidwood should be bitterly disappointed, even outraged, to learn that this has happened to a brand new facility not even open to them yet.
“Our contractor, Creative Recreation Solutions, are very shocked that anybody would deface their own environment in such a way. This is the first time they have experienced anything like this on one of their projects.”
“Along with the contractor, we are looking into cleaning options, but if these prove to be inadequate, the cost of replacement is significant.”
If anyone has any information that could assist the investigations such as camera vision or any witness accounts, please contact the Queanbeyan Police.
