By johnboy - 27 May 2009 10

1. Holt burglars nabbed:

ACT Policing arrested two males and will summons a third to court after a burglary at a residence in Holt yesterday afternoon (May 26).

The three males were apprehended after police responded to a report of suspicious activity in the area of Bunton Place about 3.10pm. An amount of property was located in their possession, allegedly stolen from a nearby residence earlier in the day.

A 20-year-old man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (May 27) charged with aggravated burglary and theft, whilst a 16-year-old male will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning (May 27) on an aggravated burglary charge. A third male, aged 19, will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date on similar charges.

Police have commended the awareness and diligence of the member of the public who contacted them to report the suspicious activity, ultimately leading to the arrests.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity in their neighbourhood is encouraged to contact police on 131 444. A detailed description of the suspicious person/s, including their clothing, will assist police in their efforts to locate them.

2. Motorcycle crash victim named:

ACT Policing has released the name of the 57-year-old man who was killed in a single motorcycle collision in Monash yesterday afternoon (May 26).

Dennis Finnigan, of Oxley, died after his motorcycle crashed into a pole at the intersection of Ashley Drive and Erindale Drive, Monash about 4.40pm yesterday.

The ACT road toll for 2009 now stands at five.

Any witnesses to the collision who are yet to contact police are urged to call Crime Stoppers.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

There’s a sign on Ginninderra drive at the intersection with tilyard drive that is actually on the road.

I think in Canberra it’s 2 degrees – if you don’t know him, then someone you know is likely to know him.

My heart goes to his family as well.

Apparently this is the 5th motor bike rider to die since 2005 by colliding with a piece of signage on or near the road.

MRA was calling (on WIN news) for all light posts and signage to be placed more than 1.5m away from the road – to lessen the chances of this occurring in the future.

Sounds like a simple plan to save lives…..( passive safety instead of misguided enforcement – wouldn’t that be a refreshing change)

There’s always that slight heart-stop as you read the name of someone who has died in an accident like this, in case you knew them. Then relief as you think you didn’t know them, and then later, you realise you might have.

Poor bloke, I hope he never knew what was happening.

Dennis was a work colleague of mine. He was a very nice and very helpful man. Everybody is shocked and deeply upset. My sympathies go to his wife and family.
RIP Dennis xoxo.

In a (weird)dream last night, I had my PC stolen, and my external hard drives with the back-ups, and my (legal) DVD backups. Basically, all my digital photos were gone.

Lesson – Don’t keep your backups near your PC. Keep them somewhere secure.

My house got done over too…but the court will just give these boys a kiss, dust them off and let them out to play again.

I wonder if these were the guys that broke into my house… I sure hope so!

If so, the police may get you to check out the loot and see if any of it is yours.
🙂

Good luck!
