Quamby to take the overflow

In the ongoing shambles of ACT Corrections the ABC now reports that the old Quamby youth detention centre is going to be used to house people who probably won’t try and run away.

“Acting Corrections Minister Simon Corbell says the former Quamby site will be used for periodic detention prisoners and low security inmates.

“Juveniles from the old Quamby site were only relocated to Bimberi in December,” he said.

“Obviously that’s a relatively short period to allow over Christmas and New Year for inspection of the facility, but I can confirm that the government is moving today to authorise the use of Quamby for overflow from our existing remand centres.””

Meanwhile the most perfect and peaceful prison in the world lies just out of reach at Hume. But that’s OK, it’s been officially opened.

Jeez, they’ve had enough trouble keeping the yoofs contained in Quamby over the years, so how are they going to keep adults secured behind the wire???

If you live in Red Hill/Narrabundah/Griffith – keep all your doors and windows locked.

i agree many youths escaped on a weekly basic ……

I think it’s a good move. The other places were over-crowded and I understand that the ACT Human Rights Commissioner has been recommending this for a while.

sorry but i don’t agree these people are criminals what human rights did their victims have ….. cram the bastards in like sardines

You have bourbon in your bunker? Sheesh, that’s a bit posh!

What, no bourbon?

Me too!

Mr Evil: If they’re periodic detention prisoners then they’re already out and about for some of the time – so I guess you should have been panicing already!

I’m always panicking: that’s why I live in a concrete bunker 25ft underground with my collection of automatic weapons, bible, tinned food, and country and western music!
