I’ll have to get out the map and have a good look. I’ve never really thought about it before. I’d say, on the whole, Canberra planners do seem to get this aspect pretty right.

Yes, and the Food Reflief Center for the homeless, drunks and drug addicts across the road from an Infants/Primary school. They even open and close at the same times so all the kiddies get to see what will happen to them if they don’t get a good education!!!!
Some of the people attending the FRC have been warned about trying to talk/be friendly to the children entering/leaving school.

There was a rebels clubhouse across the road from my queanbeyan PS.

ahh…..i lived in queanbeyan for a few years in the late eighties and early nineties…..i found that most of the sheilas were easy to get into the sack and most of my fellow drunks were easy to beat in a fist fight on the odd occassion that i failed to pick up one of the aforementioned easy sheilas…all in all not a bad place for a bloke in his early to mid twenties to spend a couple of years……

Fists ok,,,but using screwdrivers instead of your heads is taking it a bit too far don’t you think?? Qbn used to be a place where problems were solved with a good old fight, but the younger people now use weapons, that is NOT using your head it is being gutless.

Nothing, I would just like to see justice be done. With most murders here being unsolved in the last few years I would finally like to see people being charged and sentenced for their crimes.

I grew up in Queanbeyan, and the place was a laugh a minute. Some memorable moments included:
1) Watching a house burn down because one of the teens that lived there was trying to kill his brother.
2) Having a guy from school get arrested for trying to steal a gun from the police station.
3) Driving around the morning after high school muck up day, and watching the first damage assessments.

The list goes on. There are some great people in Queanbeyan, but there are also some total bogan losers. The funny part is that the bogan losers seem to think we’re all in it together, but the rest of us know better.

They should turn it in to a dump.

I think from a social dynamic point of view, Queanbeyan is very much part of the Greater Canberra system. It has (traditionally) had cheaper available housing, while being close enough to some of the concentration of lower paying jobs (Fyshwick and Hume) that it was attractive to the lower part of the socio-economic spectrum.

Seen a few 13 fingered banjo players there.

Poor old Struggletown. It’s born the brunt of “over the border” brickbats for as long as I can remember yet it has produced many notable people, my wife being one of them. It existed long before Canberra came into prominence and provided several life supporting facilities to the new city such as Walsh’s pub and a hospital.
