Red Hill fatcat doesn’t know there is a drought (despite the recent rain)

In a recent Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearing (O’Donnell & EPA [2010 ACAT4]), a Red Hill resident applied for a reversal of a decision of the EPA to not grant a water bore licence. In the hearing, the owner appeared to try to falsify records, including what the Tribunal called an “alleged cheque” (paras 46-52) in his attempt to show that he had applied for a licence, and the resident acknowledegd that he had continued to use the bore when not entitled to do so (para 92).

It’s about time that the ACT government started to close down these bores and made sure that all Canberra residents treat our diminishing resources more equally and with more care. At least this turkey has now been ordered to close off the bore (ABC news story here).

what a knob…

Not sure if that was addressed to me, but the Gary O’Donnell referred to in these posts is the one that I mentioned, who is owner/co-owner of a lot of the pubs in Canberra/Queanbeyan. I have met him quite a few times through work.

No – different person. Frank Fenner is the “environmentalist” who waters his large lawn with bore water.

I’m surprised no one else knows who Gary O’Donnell is. He owns or co-owns most of the pubs in Canberra/Queanbeyan including the Kambah Inn, Statesman Hotel, etc.

He’s in his sixties, a bit chunky with grey hair. He used to be seen drinking at the Kambah Inn most nights a few years ago when I was game enough to venture in there.

The ACAT spells his first name as “Garry”, which is different to those quoted above, but it certainly does look like the same person.

What a germ he turns out to be. I’m surprised that the Courts did not take action about his false ACAT evidence – that’s fraud, plain and simple, as well as perjury.

If you were at all interested in the kind of things that he did to get mentioned in NSW Hansard back in 1994, here is the story as published by the SMH in 1996.

Apparently, rules are for poor people.

Quickly reading those cases, they were dismissed (ie O’Donnell won). There was a later case alleging that the first case had been subject to fraudulent evidence, but that was also dismissed.

Google earth shows a pool and a tennis court along with the expected big house. Am jealous! (yeah yeah, carbon footprint blah blah)

Is this guy the reason the Jammo inn went out of business again? It is referenced in dtc‘s link.

Be a pity if someone did a poo right in the middle of his massive garden.

The name is in the link to the ABC story and in the case itself, and in the name of the case. (although why the ABC calls him a ‘northside resident’ when he lives in Mugga Way I don’t know).

may or may not be about the same person. And presumably he is not the Essendon footballer.

“GOD” (as he likes to be known and how he signs his name) might just say FU to the local government and carry on his merry way. This fella has more money than most Canberrans and i think that he will just keep this in the courts until he wins. The man has more connections than a dodgy chinese power outlet.

Oh, I hope it is, I-filed.

Have you seen the gardens at the airport snowdome? There’s no shortage of water there.

A prominent and wealthy environmentalist who lives in Canberra shamelessly waters his massive garden with bore water while preaching water frugality to others. He lives in Red Hill – I hope it isn’t the same fellow!
