Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Athena and Hilda are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!

Dog of the Week: Athena

Here’s one of those beautiful pets whose face tells the story. We think she’s saying, “Are we going to play forever? Let’s be best friends”. She has one of those intelligent faces many dogs have that makes you want to talk to them.

This girl is a people person; in fact, her greetings will blow you away because she’s just so happy to meet you. She’ll improve on this when she calms down, but wow, is she glad to see you or what?

Her face might also be asking you to throw the toy you’re holding. She loves games and we’re teaching her to fetch. One of the best things about Athena is her ability and willingness to learn new things. Experienced dog owners offering up some positive reinforcement will do wonders for her, and she’ll love it.

Athena will make a terrific second dog, too; she’s very sociable and not just with people. Of course, you’ll need a fenced yard, and she’ll want to go for a walk each day, but that’s normal. Come and meet Athena. You’ll love her.

Cat of the Week: Hilda

A large number of our cats are of the domestic shorthaired variety, but every once in a while, an attractive, well-to-do Mrs Fancy Pants longhair strolls into our care like lovely Hilda.

She sometimes acts a little bit like a slightly posh thing, too, with her alluring fur coat and a propensity to find a high perch to sit and stare … and learn … and possibly judge you.

But just like your ears, nose and fingers on these cold Canberra mornings, Hilda will gradually warm up. She’s introverted until she trusts you, and soon enough, she’ll decide that some company isn’t a bad thing.

Hilda is 10 years old so must be respected for her age. She certainly doesn’t have the patience for another pet or a bustling, loud home. No, our Hilda needs a lovely, peaceful place to call her own.

Come and meet this gorgeous lady; maybe she’ll allow you to adopt her.

Pawnote: After appearing in our Pets of the Week article last week, the adorable cat Billy has been adopted and has a forever home! Good work, Canberrans. It’s another perfect ending.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
