Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Jerome, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and Sam, the Domestic Short Hair, are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!

Dog of the Week: Jerome

This boy is a classic Staffordshire Bull Terrier with loads of energy, a hyper-waggy tail and one of those extra broad smiles that can force a grin on even the sternest of faces.

He loves to jump and play, just like his brother Jordan and sister Brittany. (Jerome is the one with brown spots in the pic.) The three all came to our shelter together without much experience of a world outside of the backyard.

He’s only eight months old and still young and clever enough to learn all the tricks. Right now, his favourite trick is seeing how fast he can eat his food (it’s a manners thing that a Go-Slow bowl will soon fix).

Drop by our shelter in Weston and see Jerome’s infectious smile; you’ll be instantly hooked.

Cat of the Week: Sam

Sam is a friendly cat, quite sweet and with a great personality. Like all good house cats, he’ll come to you for pats and snuggles, an occasional chin rub, and he loves food!

But sometimes he won’t want any of those things. You see, we’re pretty sure Sam was struck by a car in 2022. We’re proud of how we’ve helped him, and he’s made a terrific recovery from severe head and leg injuries, but there are ongoing quirks that linger.

He’s certainly friendly, but he’ll sometimes want to be left alone, not to be touched or cuddled. Sometimes, he’ll look straight through you. Kind of like when you’re talking to your nephew and he starts looking at his phone and saying, “Uh hu. Hmm. Yep. Hmm”.

We think Sam’s head injury adds character and you’ll see he’s a lovely boy who deserves a caring home. He should be fine with sensible children. Our brilliant staff will talk you through his medical history on arrival; come and meet him; he’s a remarkable cat!

Pawnotes: Last week’s older gentleman cat Kimba was adopted. Thank you, Canberra.
