Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Sir Eggcelot and Rocco are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These gorgeous animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below.

Rooster of the Week – Sir Eggcelot

Sir Eggcelot is a brave knight in shining armour looking for a flock of hens to protect! At least, that’s what he likes to think. In reality, Eggcelot is quite a shy rooster. His name should also probably be Eggce-not as Roosters don’t actually lay eggs … Needless to say, he would much rather be tucked up safe and warm in his coop than fending off enemies.

Eggcelot has very distinctive features as he is a Chinese silky bantam rooster. This unique rooster can be dated back as far as the Han Dynasty in China in 206 BC. The first European record of this fluffy bird was by Marco Polo, who in his journal reported it as “a furry chicken”. Their characteristic comb is often compared to a walnut on their face, and their feathery feet often make them look like they’re wearing furry pants!

Eggcelot likes to do classic rooster things such as scratching in the dirt and looking for worms and grubs. In his home, he’ll need a place where he can play, have a dust bath and scratch about until his heart’s content. If not in a secure coop, roosters are an easy target for foxes, so to keep him safe, Eggcelot will need a safe pen to sleep in.

Eggcelot would love a few feathered friends to bond with and show off to. If you think Eggcelot sounds like the perfect addition to your family, come meet him!

Rocky needs an owner to cuddle.

Dog of the Week – Rocco

Rocco is a boisterous and loving goofball. Rocco came to us as a stray but has found a home in our hearts and now needs a home with a family!

Rocco’s chunky frame makes him an ideal candidate for a good cuddle and a solid pat. Just be prepared for some intense kisses in return! Rocco loves being around people and would make an excellent companion. Someone who either works from home or spends a lot of time there would make an excellent match for this homebody.

During training, Rocco is known for having one eye on you and one eye on the treats. He is extremely food motivated, so he’s easy to train. He can already walk nicely on the lead and will put himself in a good sit for reward. When he meets you, he’ll even shake your hand like a true gentleman!

Rocco can get a bit anxious when left alone or exposed quickly to new environments. For this reason, he’ll need slow and steady introductions and his owners will have to create some consistency with his environment and routine. Part of that routine, though, should be fun games he can play with you! Rocco loves a tennis ball, and some fun enrichment games like hiding and searching for treats and snacks would be of huge benefit to Rocco.

Rocco is sure to be a rock of love in your home! Come meet him today.

Visit the RSPCA at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it!
