Sweet Tonka had a rough start to life, but is ready to find her second chance.

Meet our lovable ‘Pets of the Week’ looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

This week, say hello to young and vibrant Tonka, and a feathery friend Nipper.

Dog of the Week – Tonka

This week’s Pup of the Week is Tonka, a staff favourite here at our Weston Shelter who’s spent a few weeks recovering from a broken leg. Her road to recovery has been a bit of a struggle – because no Kelpie does the ‘rest and quiet’ bit very well. Tonka has been very popular during her time here in the Shelter and we think she’s ready to find a forever home.

As a growing Kelpie, Tonka has a high need for enrichment and exercise and will best suit a new home with an active family. Working breed dogs are often loyal to a fault, but also have boundless energy and a high working drive. Without plenty of exercise, games or enrichment Tonka could become destructive trying to entertain herself.

Sweet Tonka will best suit an active home with a family who loves to run or bike ride. She’ll have plenty of energy to spare, and will not suit apartment or townhouse living.

We recommend that Tonka finds a family with children 10 years and older. Please remember that all interactions between children and dogs/pups should be monitored.

Coo-ing out for some love, Nipper needs a new home to call his own!

Bird of the Week – Nipper

Nipper arrived at the Shelter earlier this year as a stray with some other coo-te friends but fell ill. So while his other feathery friends flew from the nest, Nipper had to wait a little longer for his second chance.

Nipper’s time at the Shelter has been filled with plenty of TLC and yummy food, he’s brightened up and flys happily around his aviary.

In his new home, Nipper would benefit greatly from the company of other little dove friends, in a large spacious flight aviary so he has plenty of space to zoom about. Nipper currently lives with his new larger pigeon friends Snow, Diamond, Kieran and Dahlia.

When they aren’t chatting amongst themselves or flying about, you’ll often find Nipper curled up on a perch taking a restful nap in the warm sun.

If you have the home and some other feathery friends that Nipper requires, come and say hello at the Shelter.

Please note – photos of your enclosure will be required prior to approval for adoption.

Visit us at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston ACT 2611 and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it!
