Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Roxy the dog and our pigeons are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!

Dog of the week: Roxy

Sweet Roxy has been in our care for more than 50 days and we’d dearly love to see her adopted by a caring, experienced dog lover.

Roxy came to us with three siblings, and they’d never been inside a house. They’d been kept in a neighbourhood backyard, so they’ve missed out on some general love and affection.

We think Roxy, a three-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback / American Staffordshire Terrier would love people and toys, but she needs to be shown how to interact as she’s never had that opportunity.

She’s spent Christmas in our shelter. She has company and our awesome volunteers gave her walks, treats and presents, but it’s not the place for her to live.

She’ll need training but Roxy will blossom in a safe, structured home environment and become your loyal, beautiful girl. Come and visit Roxy at our shelter.

Pigeons

The pigeons were found abandoned in a box but they are all in good shape. Photo: RSPCA ACT.

We look after all animals, great and small, including pigeons. Every once in a while, a stray pigeon arrives at our shelter, possibly one who got lost during a race. The story of this sweet-sounding flock is different.

They were found in a box. Yep, completely abandoned. Fortunately, a kind-hearted individual found them and delivered them to us. They were all in good shape (we don’t think they were in the box for long) and quite chirpy, with all things considered.

They settled into their new aviary quickly, going from a shy to comfortable in just a few days. We think they’ll resettle again just as quickly.

We love their colours which helped us decide on names. Introducing Liquorish, Butterscotch, Caramel, Toffee, Chocco and Skittle.

They must be adopted together as a flock, and you’ll need a large outdoor aviary. These treats will as some sugar to your existing flock, come and see them today at our shelter in Weston.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
