Once again, Simon Corbell has shown how far he is prepared to compromise his ethical standards in the name of politics. The Crimes is reporting that Corbell knew before the “opening” of the new AMC prison (the Alexander Maconochie Centre) that it was months away from actually capable of being used. That wasn’t bad enough; when The Chief spoke about compensation being paid to the govt, which wasn’t the case, Corbell did nothing to correct the record.
Simon now has an amazing record of mistakes and stuff-ups, including a number of planning snafus. The controversies over Karralika, the Narrabundah long-stay caravan park, the Epicentre fiasco, the proposed busway, and the GDE imbroglio all occurred under his administration. As ES Minister, he caused the mass resignation of a large number of firies, and upset the SES terribly when he turned up dressed in his SES uniform at a protest against him.
As Police minister, he reigned over ever diminishing information on crime stats being made publicly available, including the censorship of the Neighbourhood Watch website, where crime data had to be hidden from the public view.
Surely it is time that Stanhope has to let him go. I can’t imagine The Chief being willing to act as Howard did, where Ministerial accountability becomes the definitive oxymoron.
