A 17-year-old boy will face the ACT Childrens Court today and another 17-year-old boy will be summonsed after the pair allegedly stole two cars in Canberra’s south last night (Sunday, March 25).
Police will allege that between 6.30pm and 8.15pm last night, the two boys stole a purple-coloured Mazda from the car park of the Eastlakes Football Club.
Later in the evening, about 11.50 pm, a white-coloured Mazda B2600 utility was stolen from Yarralumla. Woken by the sound of his car being started, the owner of the utility went outside to find his car gone and a purple Mazda 121 left in the street with its engine running.
The owner contacted ACT Policing to report the theft, and police located the two alleged offenders with the stolen car at the Deakin shops a short time later.
Both boys, one from Queanbeyan and the other from Canberra’s inner south, are charged with two counts of taking a motor vehicle without consent and one count of going equipped for theft. One of the boys was released into the custody of his parents. Police will be opposing bail on the second boy when he appears in court today.
