The Bakery Cafe. A lunchtime recommendation

bunda burger

They’re a little over the $10 mark (generally around $11.50) but the burgers at the Bakery Cafe are one of the highlights of my working week.

(I am the mayor on foursquare)

The specials menu brings constant variety and the flavours are invariably well chosen.

There are two serious highlights; the first of which is the chips which I’d rate as amongst the best in Canberra.

But as one would hope coming from a bakery the bread is a real highlight.

It’s an often neglected part of the burger making process but makes all the difference.

I would, however, ask anyone checking it out to not go there until after 12:05, giving me time to get my order in.

Enjoy.

UPDATE 14/06/12 16:27: We now learn the cafe is moving, so tomorrow’s your last day to give it a go.

Je suis desole!

There was no sign yesterday!

At least this shows it was not just a puff piece.

I guess they are aiming for a bigger slice of the pie. More turnover perhaps?

Moving should be a piece of cake for them.

I just worry for their customers who haven’t been told about the move.

I guess they will turn up for lunch and yell with dismay, “Where the foccacia you batards?”

Nobody else has said anything, but this comment deserves applause.
Poetix, you’ve been outpunned this time – lift your game!

Its definately moving to Mitchell, i heard they need a new burger joint. There are plenty of quality burger joints in Fyshwick. Also plenty of good coffee as well.

I think we can safely say this thread is cooked.

ill be gutted if they move, easily the best Egg, Bacon and Cheese roll in town.

and the sausage rolls are the shiz too…

Personally, I think there probably was a sign, but they took it down when they saw JB coming towards the shop.

‘My, but that lad loves his chips and burger.’
‘It’s not in me to tell him the truth.’
‘Everyone act as if everything is the same. Let’s give him one more perfect lunch!’

And they did.

‘Never send to ask for whom the roll tolls. It tolls for thee. With an onion ring.’

I’ve always wondered if this place was any good (but never actually ventured inside). Never realised they had burgers on the menu. I love a good burger!
Shame it’s moving, now I’ll never get to try it.

Is that the bakery cafe on Bunda st that is shutting on Saturday and moving to Mitchell ?

Maybe this is a new way of keeping one step ahead of the Health Inspectors – move premises at short notice? 🙂

Hopefully no one got that.

I bought a cornish pasty, and it was very ordinary.

Was it made with real corn? I had one from there once and it just had this vegetably slop in it.

I take it that means they’ve decided they want to specialise in tarts..?

Yes, it’s closing. I went there today and saw the sign saying they’re off to Mitchell. I bought a cornish pasty, and it was very ordinary.

I heard it was Fyshwick.

Or perhaps it was Yass?

They make delicious gourmet pies also! Very yummy.
