Local roots, folk and reggae band Kopasetic launch their debut EP ‘Rhapsody Blues’ at Smith’s Alternative this Saturday with acoustic indie rock band Bobby James in support.
Kopasetic’s music explores themes of ‘powerlessness and politics in the information age, with lyrics that enliven themes of modern oligarchy, environmentalism and social justice.’ Their influences include Neil Young and Bob Marley with folk, ska and fingerstyle guitar elements.
It’s set to be a night of great music: Four Lions are playing later alongside local blues-rock duo The Barren Spinsters celebrating the launch of their debut album, Ten Steps to Cynical Thinking.
Slowly Slowly are touring their single ‘Jellyfish’, playing UC Hub on Thursday with local supports Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers, while Archie, Partly Cloudy and Swift Peaks meet up for a Mr Wolf jam sesh.
The Canberräng local festival of Swing runs from Thursday to Sunday with a huge line-up of gigs and dance events around town.

At Canberra Theatre Centre Let it Be celebrates the songwriting partnership of Paul McCartney and John Lennon on Saturday, featuring Australian music legends including John Paul Young.

On Friday, Red Gazelle are playing the Basement with local bands Blissphorous, Psionic Tide and Organic Mechanic, while dance prodigy Basenji plays at UC Hub.

The National Capital Orchestra debuts a new Australian composition as part of a concert this Saturday, while The Beauty of Living Sound is set to transcend the mundane through the spontaneous musical play of iconic brass musicians Miroslav Bukovsky and Simone de Haan on Sunday.
