Thieves leave with cases of beer after another ram raid

Theives have left with a few cases of beer and left behind around $4,000 worth of damage after another ram raid incident at a Curtin bottle shop.

Around 11:20 pm on Monday night (22 July), police responded to a report of a burglary at a bottle shop at Statesman Hotel, Curtin, where a vehicle had been driven into the front roller doors.

It is reported that one person got out of the stolen Volkswagen Golf, grabbed a couple of cases of beer and fled the scene, leaving behind around $4,000 worth of damage to the store.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

It is the 20th reported ram raid in the ACT in 2019, with stores in Lyneham, Mitchell, Fyshwick, Greenway, Weston, Ngunnawal, Charnwood, Franklin, Hawker, and now Curtin all victims to the crime.

Police have reassured local businesses that they are doing everything they can to arrest the criminals behind the spate of ram raids in the past couple of months, stating that they are dedicating “significant resources” to their investigations.
