Think of your pets in hot weather....

This morning in Bruce I was disgusted to see that one selfish pet owner had a dog in an almost entire concrete yard with:

– a tiny little box (rabbit sized) in which to shelter

– no shade or eaves for the dog to shelter under (new Bruce homes = boxes)

– and NO WATER (there was a small bowl, possibly intended for water, but it was empty.

I called the RSPCA and they’re looking into it (though generally their hands are tied). Aparently the owner goes home at lunch time on hot days to check on the dog – yeah, that’s not good enough, moron.

The only upside of this story is that I’m not the only one who was appalled by the owner’s stupidity – someone else had already reported the matter. Thank you to that person.

I noticed a lot of other dogs in small yards/on balconies during my run, though most seemed to have doggy doors so they could go inside. I hope these animals are being propoerly cared for. The next few days are going to be extremely hot.

I know that you will get the usual mind your own business responses after this, but I say good for you. I have called the RSPCA regarding dogs next door to us years ago who were not taken care of, and they did duly put the owners on notice regarding nutrition, water supply, shelter and general care. The owners duly blamed us of course for trying to care for their dogs welfare. The dopey owners then got rid of one – the underfed one – rather than lift their game. What happened next – they vacated the housing commission house and new tenants, who also had a young child, bought a whacking great dog to be uncared for, never exercised etc – so the whole thing started again. We moved so I don’t know what happened.
