Truck driver dies in fiery crash near Gunning this afternoon

A person going about their work has been killed this afternoon following a truck crash near Gunning, between Goulburn and Yass.

Emergency services were called to The Hume Highway, about five kilometres east of Gunning, at 4:40 pm today (April 23).

Officers from The Hume Police District believe a northbound prime mover crashed into a B-double, which was broken down in lane one.

The impact caused the prime mover to catch alight. Sadly the driver died at the scene and has not yet been formally identified. Police officers have commenced an investigation into the incident.

The driver of the broken-down truck was not injured and is helping police; investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

All northbound lanes remain closed and motorists are advised to expect delays. All vehicles are being advised to use the Barton or Federal Highways and allow an extra one hour travel time. For updates check Live Traffic NSW.
