ACT Policing has arrested a 37-year-old man, after he fled from police early this morning (Friday, May 17).
Around 4.30am police were conducting routine patrols along Hindmarsh Drive, Garran when they observed the driver of a white ute with a quantity of copper in the tray acting in a suspicious manner.

Police activated their emergency lights and sirens indicating for the driver to stop, however the driver continued without stopping.

Police pursued the vehicle through the suburbs of Mawson, Pearce, Garran and Phillip before the vehicle came to a stop in Ainsworth Street, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Police found the man hiding behind a pile of gravel.

The pursuit lasted 10 minutes and reached a top speed of 140km/h.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House where he is expected to be charged later today.

Frankly i doubt it, i certainly dont get any sort of tracking number wheni purchase cable, and That doesn’t change the fact that the work has to be re-done. Worse if they get what they can from underground runs it can be bloody difficult to get the useless cable out and put new stuff in.

Being an electrician I freaking hate copper thieves. Nothing more annoying than having to redo work when these scumbags come in and rip it off.

Was there not a article here last year about all new copper being chemically identified?

Guess he found the wrong sort of copper

You’re showing your metal with that pun.

Unalloyed goodness.

Hmmm…presumably a copper burglar who got twitchy when he saw the plod.

Sounds like copper is becoming as valuable as gold. Wonder if we’ll end up with ingots of copper being stored in bank vaults one day?
