If you are looking to live slightly out of the ordinary, this quirky gem in the heart of Macquarie is the perfect choice of home for you and your family.

This custom designed home from renowned mid-century architectural firm, Hancock Courtney and Renfree, is a striking example of robust and unique design both inside and out. Boasting three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a carport and a single garage – prospective owners are treated to a generous 715m2 block to call home.

Floor to ceiling windows to survey your beautifully manicured garden.

Andrew Lonsdale from Ray White Canberra says that the house evokes certain feelings as soon as you walk in the door.

“You walk in and immediately there’s a smile on your face. [The home is a] mid-century modern design and bespoke amongst run-of-the-mill homes in the area. You’ve got the garden outside, separation inside – but still having an open plan feel. You’ve got garden rooms, spots to read, spots to hang out. I wish there were more of them, because they’re such appealing homes to live in, and it’s got much bigger windows than most,” he says.

Emphatic focal points – get comfortable on any level using the spiral staircase.

Andrew says the home appeals to many different buyer types, and interest has already shown that. “It’s really been a cross-section,” he says “[It could be] a family home with teenage kids, or just someone who wants to live a life-less-ordinary. Many people are coming to Canberra from larger coastal cities, and this home has bit more an inland feel to it,” he says.

Inside you’ll enjoy a rare opportunity to relax and get away on a mezzanine level, and you will be excited by the playfulness of the spiral staircase that runs just beside the dining area.

“I really love the spiral staircase. That plus the 1970s features make it so ‘hip’! The sunken lounge and living area is particularly appealing and fun to potential buyers,” says Andrew.

Remember sunken lounge areas? Enjoy an open plan feel, with a good amount of separation, too.

Andrew points out that it has always been very well maintained, and since its last sale in 2016, there has been a lot done to the home to keep it fresh and fun, “There’s been significant improvements in terms of the way it has been organised inside. There have been new blinds hung, and the garden outside has had a lot of work,” says Andrew.

Plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful, manicured gardens outside.

The quaint kitchen is modernised by a new dishwasher and Smeg appliances, and it flows easily into the living area, dining room and family room. Enjoy updated bathrooms and the wealth of natural light that streams in from the large windows. You can admire the cathedral ceilings from the inside, or point them out to your friends from the outside from one of the many entertaining areas.

Noting the uniqueness of the home, Andrew indicates that the interest has been strong so far. “People who saw it up for sale last time have come through again – attracted by the unique and fun design. We have had good numbers through and we are looking to get more numbers through as well,” he says.

The home is comfortable and inviting, but also evokes feelings of fun and leisure, and the design compliments it perfectly. Andrew agrees.

“I can just imagine James Bond sliding down that balustrade and popping a champagne bottle!” he says.

Pour me a flute, thanks James.

Champagne or tea outside today? You decide.

The property will be auctioned on Saturday 16 March at 1:30 pm. For more information, contact Andrew Lonsdale at Ray White Canberra on 0428 486 692 or click here.
