A 40-year-old man from Harrison has received a high-range drink driving charge following a crash in Ngunnawal early Tuesday morning (23 November).
At 3:10 am, police saw a black Nissan Micra sedan stationary in the middle of the road about 100 metres west of the Horse Park Drive roundabout, when conducting mobile patrols on Burrumarra Avenue.
Police noticed extensive damage including to the roof, a smashed windscreen, airbags deployed and a missing front bumper.
The driver remained in the vehicle telling officers that he had been in a collision while driving to a Casey residence. A police search of the nearby area resulted in the identifying of a collision scene at the roundabout at Gungahlin and Horse Park Drive.
The collision scene was approximately two kilometres from where the police had discovered the man in his vehicle.
It was determined that the man had collided with a light pole and a “Form One Lane” sign before he continued driving, leaving the vehicles front bumper with a number plate attached behind in the process.
The driver underwent a breath screening test which was positive. He was taken into custody and conveyed to Gungahlin Police Station.
Soon after, the driver provided a sample of breath that was sufficient for analysis and the result was 0.272 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath.
The 40-year-old was served with an Immediate Suspension Notice – removing his right to drive. He will be issued a summons to appear in court at a later date.
