A 73 year old Queanbeyan woman has pleaded guilty to defrauding Centrelink of over $370,000 using three names, which she spent on the pokies.
According to the ABC, she “changed her last name to avoid being contacted by her violent ex-husband and was then being paid by Centrelink under both names. She said she did not notify anyone because she was terrified of going to jail.”
And the poor old woman must have accidently registered a third name and forgotten to tell anyone. Please!
I wonder how much her sob story will affect her sentence?
UPDATED: The scammer is in the slammer – sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
