Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!
Henry and Fluffy are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These gorgeous animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below.
Dog of the week – Henry
Like his namesake Henry VIII, our Henry knows what he wants. He may be small in stature, but he’s HUGE in personality. His favourite pastime is collecting: forget the stamps, it’s shoes, socks, slippers, and whatever else you leave lying around. Being a serious collector, he may be reluctant to give up what he’s managed to scrounge.
Henry loves company and his ideal home would be one with his mature human family around most of the time. He’s not so keen on other dogs or young children and would much prefer to be the one in the royal limelight.
Despite his age, Henry is very sprightly and quick. He’ll appear out of nowhere when he hears that kibble hitting the food bowl. Similarly, he’ll be through your legs and out that door if you’re not vigilant. Speaking of hearing, Henry has demonstrated that wonderful talent known as ‘selective hearing’ (as in, “I’ll listen and respond when it suits me”).
That can make training challenging, but luckily he is very food motivated. Henry does need some foundation and refresher training – especially indoors – so experienced dog owners would suit him better. Older teenage children would be preferred to ensure that training consistency.
Henry will make an active and friendly companion and will relish hanging out on the couch with his new family.
Cat of the week – Fluffy
He’s not Bustopher Jones, and he’s not skin and bones … Fluffy will definitely benefit from a weight loss program! He likes plenty of space and would be happy to strut his stuff with access to a safe, secure outdoor area. This could well help him lose a kilo or so. He loves wand toys so some regular active playtime might also help.
Fluffy is quite easygoing and will contentedly, at his own pace, follow you around the home for those oh-so-important chin scratches. He’s not much of a lap cat but would prefer to snuggle next to you on the sofa or, better yet, bury himself under the bed. He’ll have you trained in time as to his preferences.
Fluffy has lived with dogs and, like most cats, tolerated them (perhaps even bossed them around), but he’s not partial to other cats. He has had entropion surgery, so ongoing eye monitoring will be needed.
This is the quintessential cool cat!
