The National Capital Authority is warning of another lengthy project in their neverending quest to tinker with Anzac Parade:

The National Capital Authority (NCA) will commence road work on the Anzac Parade and Constitution Avenue intersection from Friday 16 March, which may result in traffic delays.
Over the next eight months, the intersection will be replaced and widened to cater for the future duplication of Constitution Avenue.

The work will be completed in phases to minimise the impact on road users and pedestrians.

Weather permitting, the NCA will undertake the first phase of work from 16 to 20 March, with the eastern section of the intersection being replaced. During these works:

— Southbound traffic on Anzac Parade will be diverted and limited to one lane;
— Westbound traffic on Constitution Avenue will be diverted to Anzac Park East, Blamey Crescent/Currong Street and Anzac Park West; and
— Eastbound traffic on Constitution Avenue will be diverted to Anzac Parade (northbound), Blamey Crescent/Currong Street and Anzac Park East.

Weather permitting, the second phase of work will be completed on the western section of the intersection from 30 March to 3 April. During these works:

— Northbound traffic on Anzac Parade will be diverted and limited to one lane
— Westbound traffic on Constitution Avenue will be diverted to Anzac Park East; Blamey Crescent/Currong Street and Anzac Park West; and
— Eastbound traffic on Constitution Avenue will be diverted to Anzac Park West, Blamey Crescent/Currong Street and Anzac Parade (southbound).

What the?! They’ve only just completed major works around 6 months ago and got this area looking all pretty. Meanwhile, that new express lane arrangement provides much entertainment as hesitant car driver stops in left lane, with B-double and trail of cars behind expecting to barrel through.

While they’re at it can they please run an educational campaign for west bound travellers on Parkes Way who are yet to cotton on to the fact that the left lane crossing at the bottom of Anzac Pde is now an express lane and doesn’t have to give way to the traffic from the right. You’d reckon the massive signs and white lines all over the road would make it clear. Sadly not.

It’s a perfect example to illustrate the lack of attention paid by far too many motorists.

Currently, in afternoon traffic, it is usually more efficient to get through that roundabout using the right hand lane, while still giving way to traffic on the right.

People suck.

Roadworks too.
