What do you get when you mix mud and an obstacle course? You get a heap of options which presently seem to be evading the Capital.
Being a regular gym attendee and a sociable chap, if you haven’t heard about the advent of mud races then likely you need to get out more. These mud races appear around the country in various forms and are essentially a military-style obstacle course with a heap of mud. Thousands of people are attending these events prepared to test their mettle and fitness.
Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash and Warrior Challenge are some of the mud races on offer in Australia. Each brand offers something different, its own flavour but with a central theme of running through mud. Participants can look forward to being confronted with a range of obstacles depending on their choice including wall climbs, tunnel crawls, electric shocks, slides and you may even throw a spear!
Now I know a number of Canberrans who have made the trek to either Sydney or Melbourne to attend these races which more often than not are a couple of hours drive outside the city limits. Surely in a place like Canberra with it wide open expanses of land we could actually host a race in the city and watch those from our neighbouring states flock to us in the centenary year!
To conclude I really really really want mud races to come to Canberra.
