The responsible removal of bulk waste from your home or office can be challenging. You’ll need to consider many factors when choosing how to dispose of unwanted material that isn’t allowed for regular waste collection. This includes legal, regulatory, environmental and financial factors.
If you’re clearing your backyard or garage, moving house or renovating, you’ll understand the value of hiring a skip bin hire or rubbish removal company. This includes for general household waste, building materials or green matter. It can also include hazardous substances such as asbestos, oils or chemicals which need to be disposed of in line with environmental regulations.
In this article, we’ll outline the qualities to consider when choosing a skip bin hire or rubbish removal company, and share where to find the best in Canberra.
What makes a great skip bin or rubbish removal company?
Choosing the right skip bin hire or rubbish removal company can make disposing waste quick, easy, safe and cost-effective.
It can be helpful to keep the following in mind when choosing a skip bin hire or rubbish removal company.
- Wide range of skips. You’ll want to choose a company that has a range of skip bins. You may only need a small one for household material. Or you might need a large one for building or renovation waste, or landscaping waste. Choosing a company with a range of size options, at different price points, means you’ll only pay for what you need.
- Competitive pricing. Checking price plans on skip bin or rubbish removal company websites. Comparing costs will help you find a price that suits your budget.
- Availability, delivery and pickup. Choose a company with a skip bin ready to be delivered when you need it. Bear in mind that skips are in hot demand and you may need to wait a few days. You’ll also want peace of mind by choosing a company that will collect your rubbish on time. This can be important if you’re moving house or renovating against a tight schedule.
- Hidden costs. Make sure you know what you can dispose of and how much so you don’t get dinged with extra costs. Some skip bin hire or rubbish removal companies charge extra for materials such as concrete, toxic substances and car tyres. Others have strict weight allowances. If you exceed these, you may have to pay extra.
- Responsible practices. It’s important to choose a skip bin hire or rubbish removal company that disposes of waste responsibly. This is one that adheres to laws and regulations for removing and treating waste. Selecting an ethical local business that is environmentally responsible is the way to go.

I spoke to the owner/operator of Betta Bins this morning to try and book in a skip bin hire for early next week and he was rude and beyond unhelpful. Offered no alternate options, just said ‘can’t help ya sorry’ and hung up. Not sure why they ended up on the list of best skip bin companies to use in Canberra. Disgraceful customer service and will tell everyone we know not to use this company ever.

I always use them and am very happy with their superb service and affordable prices, They are very careful and always on time.
What is the cheapest and best hire for a month?
Chelle Belle... Did you find the cheapest Skip? I need one.
Brindabella Waste Company - I have a trash pack from them and it's in my top ten best ideas ever. They will come to collect and if it's not even half full, they will leave it and send an email saying no collection, no charge as it wasn't full. One off fee for this size trash pack. Happy, happy and happy.
For any Skip bin hire service in Canberra location or ACT, Cut Price Skips is the best one. Always go for it without thinking twice.
Cut Price skips all the way

Stupid question time, when they say $190 for three days hire is that just for the bin and they charge you extra for what you put into the bin? Also can you put mixed waste into the one bin i.e greenery and house building materials left over from a renno? TIA.
Ken Owers No that's all included. Each bin come with a weight limit though. You'll pay extra if you go over that weight. If you have mixed waste companies like cut price skips will advise you split them up. For example instead of a 4m skip, get 2x2m skips - one for Reno material the other for green waste.

Budget bins
Cut Price Skips, delivery and service was great and I didn’t have to worry about hidden costs
Cut price skips are the best hands down, my family run various maintenance businesses and we use them on a regular basis. The team are friendly and accommodating to changes is circumstances and don’t require much notice for extensions
It would be useful if you could hire a skip bin for a month at a reduced rate. We are doing a mega clean out during iso, but it’s obviously taking more than a week to get through almost 20 yers of accumulated stuff. We’ve just had a skip (from Cut Price Skips), and it would have been handy to have it for another 2 weeks (but at $100 extra on top of the almost $300 for the initial hire) it wasn’t affordable. The skip got picked up only about 2/3 full.
Belinda Napier you could keep doing the declutter, put all the stuff in an area then order the skip. Probably a pan to double handle things...let alone the temptation of reclaiming something 🥴
Sher Young that was what caused this initial build up haha... and then a second pile here.. third one there.. a whole home office full! Plus it has taken a while to jump start the huspain into action and he only has the weekends to work through the garage full of his junk.
Belinda Napier you can buy pink skip bags from Bunnings, take as long as you like to fill them, then call the company to come pick them up.
They are fantastic.
I’d luv to know of anyone who sends out green waste bins. I live n an apartment so I don’t get the ACT waste bin Services.
Sher Young Tom's trashpacks used to take green waste I think.
Sher Brindabella Waste - locally owned too!
Jenni Zimoch thank you
Elisa Thompson thank you
A1 bins for me

Another vote for cut price skips
Cut price are great. Always use them when needed. Hassle free and always on time
Just used BettaBins and the bin got delivered the day after booking it and no hidden costs - it was a fixed cost (very reasonable) and much better than other companies we have used in the past which cost a fortune.
