Following the discovery of a quantity of drugs at a Deakin residence yesterday (Tuesday, August 21), ACT Policing’s Drug Investigations Team will oppose bail on a 51-year-old man when he appears in the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday, August 23).
Belconnen General Duties patrol members executed a Crimes Act warrant on a Deakin residence yesterday in relation to a domestic violence matter, for which the alleged offender has already faced court.
Acting on information received, a Drugs of Dependence warrant was also sworn for the residence.
During the warrant, police officers also canvassed the local area and widened the search.
Located was more than a kilogram of white powder suspected to be cocaine. Police also located a significant sum of cash at the same concealed location.
Acting Crime Manager, Detective Sergeant Shane Scott said that this seizure, which had a potential street value of around $350,000, was made possible by a combination of methodical investigation, and a willingness by the public to assist.
“With the help of the public, we searched for and located evidence we strongly suspected was somewhere nearby. This is a good example of how a partnership between the community and its police generates useful intelligence, on which police can then act,” Sergeant Scott said.
