Fire in the tower

ACT Fire & Rescue has extinguished a small electrical fire in a refrigeration unit at Telstra Tower, Black Mountain Drive.

Approx 30 people have been evacuated as a precaution.

Fire crews are commencing ventilation and air monitoring operations.

Update to follow.

11:03 AM

Electrical fire was inside a post-mix machine inside a restaurant on level four at a cafe on the viewing platform of Black Mountain Tower.

Three fire pumpers on scene with the Breathing Apparatus Van, Hazardous Materials Unit and two commanders.

Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 10.38am.

Extensive smoke damage but minimal fire damage.

Crews are continuing ventilation operations.

No injuries reported.

11:17 AM

Fire crews have completed air monitoring operations.

Staff and patrons have been allowed to return to building.

ACT Fire & Rescue will depart the scene shortly.

11:58 AM

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics were called to the scene to assess one female patient for suspected smoke inhalation.

Transport to hospital was not required.
