O Week time

We hear this week is O-Week. I don’t quite understand how since it’s only the middle of February and surely uni doesn’t begin until the start of March, but there you are.

Since the official guides are always full of virtuous things like meet your course convener barbecues and learn how to use the library tours, we want to know what the word is on the best things to do this week. Which will be the hottest parties? And, more importantly, where’s the best place to get cheap grog each day?

It’s just a motorised hand on a stick. It waves to everyone as they walk past.

hehe…Noice one

Wave machine?

Wave machine?

There’s a wave machine at Sails on Wednesday night in celebration. Much as you might think stuff about Sails (such as that’s not what it’s called anymore) it might be funny.

Don’t rush, you’ve got 5 years to complete it.

O-Week up here is next week.
Started my PhD today, think that means I should be doing stuff now…

Tomorrow lunchtime is carnival day at ANU, on the oval behind Chifley library. It’s always good fun, with a free bbq, $1 beers and free amusements like the jumping castle, sumo suits and the horizontal bungee you run along only for it to pull you back into the foam. A good day out. To everyone at work tomorrow: suck it.

I just got back from UC, Starting up this year. WIN News was filming when I left, I don’t think anyone cared.

Apparently Wil Anderson is coming to do the welcome to UC students.

Aoart form that there was some BBQ going on and free stuff of course.

All in all, I will most likely fail it all, but time will tell. I don’t have to be back until Monday, so I am taking off what ever time I can.

I’m a mature-ager at the ANU, so I care stuff-all about O-week. I do however care about the commencement of teaching next week, which does seem early.

UC goes back on the 19th. Academy is having a few things, one tomorrow night ‘ANU back to School’ $5 entry, $2 drinks, a Foam Party on Wednesday (also $5 entry) and Trash Thursday on Thursday (again $5 entry) and $2 drinks till 2am.

In my experience, no matter when uni starts, you still get the same three exam weeks plus three holiday weeks in the middle of the year.

ANU actually starts teaching next week – yep, it’s early, but they’ve been all over the shop in starting since 2004. Other unis are going back a tad later, but presmably that means you don’t get as long a vacation during the ski season.

I’ll take the opportunity to plug the ANU Film group – free screening of “Casino Royale” (yes, the Daniel Craig one that’s still in cinemas) tonight at 8pm, at the Coombs lecture theatre at the corner of Garran and Fellowes roads on the campus.
