Police seek witnesses to Aranda fires on 13th & 14th of March

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service extinguished three grass fires in the bushland next to Belconnen Way, Aranda on Monday the 13th and Tuesday 14th.

ACT Policing suspect the fires were lit deliberately and are now calling for witnesses.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the bushland area next to Belconnen Way, Aranda on 13 or 14 March to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.

ACT Policing takes the deliberate lighting of fires very seriously. There is a $225,000 maximum penalty for deliberately lighting a bushfire and up to 15 years imprisonment.

Anyone who sees any suspicious behaviour or activity in grassland areas such as loitering near grassy or bushland areas with lighters, matches, fireworks or accelerants, is urged to contact ACT Policing Operations immediately on 131 444 or if there is a fire to call 000 (Triple Zero).
