Online reviews can make or break a business. For Sandy Morris, receiving consistently good reviews has now led to her winning ACT Agent of the Year at the 2020 RateMyAgent awards held in Melbourne on Thursday.

Ms Morris, Principal at One Agency in Kambah, says winning the award was a welcome surprise.

“An award as big as this means a lot. RateMyAgent is an online platform that lists real estate agents, their sales results and reviews. We sell quite a lot of properties and we are grateful our customers have taken the time to go online to rate us. Essentially this award is a year’s worth of thank you’s from happy clients,” Ms Morris said.

The Agent of the Year awards recognise the most consistently recommended agents and agencies by customers who have sold their property in the last 12 months.

“Happy vendors means good reviews. It all comes down to caring. We aim to make buying and selling a house a pleasant experience for everyone involved,” Ms Morris said.

“Selling a house is a big thing in people’s lives and it is not always in the most pleasant circumstances. You need to respect people, it is not just about the sale.”

Having lived in Canberra most of her life, Ms Morris said she is particularly passionate about her local area of the Tuggeranong Valley.

“I actually got into the industry by accident when I was thinking of selling my house many years ago. The agent who came through mentioned that she was looking for a personal assistant. And I thought, I love houses, I love everything about real estate, and I like working with people. So next thing I was a PA.”

Ms Morris has now worked in the industry for over two decades.

Thursday’s award follows her recognition in 2019 as Principal of the Year for the One Agency Network in November.

Winner of RateMyAgent ACT Agency of the Year went to Ray White, Canberra.

Executive Director Ben Faulks says the award is a reflection of the philosophy of the Belconnen based agency.

“We put our customers first and try to look at everything we do through the eyes of our customers. For doing that, we consistently get five star reviews. We are focused on relationships rather than transactions,” Mr Faulks said.

“This is the fourth year in a row that we have won RateMyAgent ACT Agency of the Year and I am very proud of our team.”
