Police have released footage of a car that may be connected to an alleged violent home invasion in Mawson where a group pretended to be police officers after forcing their way inside the home.
ACT Policing allege that at about 1:45 am on 18 July 2024, four people wearing dark clothing, gloves and balaclavas forced their way into a home on Du Faur Place, Mawson.
Inside, the group allegedly identified themselves as police executing a search warrant.
They then allegedly pulled out a number of weapons, including a rifle, baton and tyre iron, before threatening and assaulting a man, as well as demanding money and drugs.
The group allegedly stole the man’s wallet and vehicle – a Toyota Hilux ute – when they left a short time later.
The ute was found in Lyons at about 2:30 am the same morning, and it was taken to the police Exhibit Management Centre for examination.
Police immediately began investigating the allegations.
“Police believe the home was targeted in error, with neither the residence nor the man known to police,” a police spokesperson said at the time.
On Tuesday (3 December), police released the above CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
The footage shows a silver station wagon, which police believe was possibly travelling in convoy with the stolen Toyota Hilux.
The footage was taken between 1:45 am and 2:30 am on Mawson Drive on the same morning as the incident.
“Police are seeking information from anyone who may have seen the silver station wagon or has any information in relation to the incident that could assist with the investigation,” a police spokesperson said.
