As exciting as it can be, there’s no denying that moving a house or business is a huge job. Whether you’re downsizing or upsizing, staying local or heading interstate, moving can be stressful. You’ll find yourself juggling details. You’ll also find yourself making multiple decisions, including what to take and what to get rid of.

To streamline matters, you’ll understand the importance of using a professional removalist to help you move quickly and efficiently.

In this article, we’ll outline the qualities to consider when choosing a removalist company, and share where to find the best in Canberra.

What makes a great removalist company?

Choosing the right removalist company can take the stress out of what can be a physically exhausting and emotionally draining experience.

It can be helpful to keep the following in mind when choosing a removalist company.

  • Pricing. Ask your removalist to be clear about how much your move will cost. Make an inventory of what needs to be moved. Send your inventory to the removalist for accurate quoting. Some removalist companies even have online forms to complete. Be clear if you need additional requirements. This can include picking up or dropping off items from multiple locations, since this can affect the cost.
  • Respectful service. You’ll want a removalist who treats your property as if it was their own. This means a removalist who takes great care with your belongings and tidies up when the job is done.
  • Reliable. Choose a removalist company that commits to showing up on time and gets stuck into the job. This means a company that commits to working efficiently when loading and unloading.
  • Caring staff. Look for friendly and professional staff who respect that they’re in your property while working.
  • Additional services. If you’re looking for additional services, like supplying boxes, packing and unpacking, check online to make sure the removalist companies can help.

We had a great experience using our previous removalist last year, but unfortunately, they weren’t available this time around. After getting a quote from Leader Removals, which was slightly higher than our last mover, we decided to give them a try. And we’re so glad we did!

From the start, the service was exceptional. The team at Leader Removals was proactive and reached out several times ahead of the move to ensure everything was in order. They provided helpful advice, confirmed timings, and made sure we felt prepared. On the day of the move, the crew was not only friendly and professional but also incredibly patient and willing to go the extra mile to help.

It’s rare to encounter this level of service, especially from a local removalist, and we were thoroughly impressed. If you’re planning a move, I highly recommend Leader Removals – they truly offer an experience that sets them apart from the rest!

We used Leader Removals to move from an apartment in Dickson to a townhouse in Watson. The guys who turned up were great, they had all the gear they needed, helped disconnect our washing machine and even levelled our fridge in the new place (after spending a lot time figuring out how to actually get it in the kitchen space!)
They were super friendly and patient and there were no issues with damage to either property or any of our stuff, would use again and I highly recommend them.

We made the mistake of using Virgil for a move last month and cannot recommend them. Arrived late with a smaller truck than we ordered (resulted in an extra trip being required). Very slow workers. Damaged several pieces of furniture including dents in a family heirloom table I specifically asked them to be careful with. Didn’t return our call the next day. Hung up on our second attempt three days later. Haven’t responded to a subsequent email.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use Quality Removals. I rang them for a quote. When they finally answered, the phone was picked up but they didnt bother saying hello. I could hear a baby in the background crying. I said “hello”. And said “yes”. I said “is this quality removals you didnt even speak when you answered the phone”. She goes “excuse me i did so” in the rudest tone. Baby still screaming in the background, sounded like i called a child care centre. I ended up saying this is overly rude and unprofessional. I called and booked someone else.

We used GK Removals to move 10km in Weston Creek. The team of Jack, Bill, and Dave showed up promptly on time and moved our heavy Jarrah furniture smoothly and efficiently. Some items were moved a few times till we were happy with no issues from the crew. The move was done during the rain and they laid down mats to ensure no mud was tracked into our newly renovated home and they cleaned up behind themselves. We will be using GK Removals for any future moves that we have. We cannot speak highly enough of there professionalism, enthusiasm and dedication to doing a great job.

I’ve used Leader removals several times, most recently last week. I have no hesitation in recommending them. The administration is first rate, efficient, organised and helpful. The removal teams turn up on time. They treat your possessions with care and on this last occasion the goods were returned from storage without any damage. Would use them again.

Leader Removalists are fantastic! We used them over a year ago to put furniture, paintings etc in storage while the house was being painted, and more recently to move the rest of the house to the new place and finally deliver the storage items. All crews were super efficient, friendly, helpful and careful. The managers and office staff are all a delight to work with as well. I thoroughly recommend Leader Removalists!

We recently used CBR Removalists to move a small number of items that we couldn’t move ourselves around half a kilometre to our new address. Biggest mistake ever.
They agreed to start our job on a Friday at 1pm but after many phone calls, each one pushing out the time, and a night camped at our old place, they finally arrived on Saturday at 3:30 pm. The work rate was pathetic, taking a 15 minute break after an hours ‘work’.
From the time they finished loading, they took an hour to drive the half a kilometre to our new place. After another round of phone calls during which it was obvious the company had no idea where the crew was, they arrived, smelling of alcohol, acting acting aggressively, refusing to start the unloading. The situation was so bad we called the police twice. After about half an hour did they then start to unload our items.
In the end we let them dump our stuff in the garage and living room after the owner of the business agreed to send a better crew around on the Monday to finish the job. Another night camped out in our house.
We told them not to come back.
Now comes the really good part. They overcharged BOTH the hourly rate (by $40/hr) and the number of hours. They refused to respond to our queries, instead we got threatening emails about charging us extra to put the bill in hands of a debt collector.
Apparently there is no recourse.
You might still book this mob and it might work for you, but is it worth the risk? The person on the other end of line through all this told us he had been recently hired ‘to sort out the mess’.

Gracious Chen11:49 am 04 Jul 23

Hi Peter, I totally felt for you. We have the similar experience back to November last year. They changed the removal time just few hours and postponed another day which we needed to rebook the lift of the apartment. We cannot imagine if we can not change of the pre book time. What should we do? The guys who obviously did not have the experience and couldn’t even communicate with English and needed to contact the office all the time. We did not have a lot of things. However, it took them two hours to finish the job from Fyshwick to Manuka. We were relief it was finally finished. It caused so much stress.

They bought a few similar businesses and please be aware they can mock you around . We are amazed the business can still exist.

Have to recommend Leader after our recent move. From the moment they pulled up to empty our house until the last box was delivered to our new home the service was excellent. Very friendly and efficient crew that were very careful with everything they did. Everything was properly wrapped and even heavy awkward items were moved without touching walls. The price was also very reasonable, and better than other quotes I received.

Robert Crowley8:56 am 19 Feb 23

Virgil Removals I used yesterday for my move and they were phenomenal across the board. I downsized which required a lot of culling. Moving is overwhelming. I explained my situation with them and to cut a long story short they were very understanding and pro active. They helped me pack, cull on my directions and they even came armed with boxes and packing materials as they went so far that they organsied a skip bin to help with the cull. And they of course did the removal. I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment from a 4 bedroom home. They handled the whole process so well I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. My son was so grateful for how helpful they were that he sent a formal email to the manager thanking them for their high level of service.

I chose Virgil Removals for my house move. I called and got quotes from all businesses on this page as I find RiotAct to be a very reliable media outlet in Canberra. I spoke to a friendly man (I am sorry but I forget the name) who I thought was great. He was the easier to talk to when getting quotes out of all the other businesses. He was very straight and clear and professional. He informed me of the price and the process. Coming moving day I was recommend a medium sized truck and 2 guys and that arrive (on time). The guys were presentable and really good it all fit in the truck in the 1 go which made the move quicker so all-in-all it was a great move from a really great business.

I have just finished up a move with CBR Removalists yesterday (Saturday). I must say it was a terrific experience. The gentlemen were absolutely lovely, very hard working men and cared for my items like their own. I am elderly and have lots of delicate crystal ware and the gentlemen packed everything carefully for me. They suppled boxes, and unpacked at the other end. As I have just retired, I had a lot going on so CBR Removalists helped me significantly with my packing and my removal to Mollymook. I am really happy with choosing CBR Removalists.

Jenni Oliver5:20 pm 13 Jan 23

Did 2 removals with Virgil last year, 1 good, 1 bad.

The problem with the second was it included a piano. I had specified this in the original email and received a quote, but then was later told that it would be an extra $440. I was OK with this as it is a difficult item to move.

However on the day only 2 guys turned up with nothing extra. They struggled to move the piano and as there was no protection the piano received some bad dents.

I made them take photos before leaving, but after numerous emails I finally received an email asking for photos, took some and sent them and never heard another word. Definitely no attempt to fix the damage.

Had two different teams, both very pleasant and hard working. Emails are answered promptly except when something goes wrong.

If you have an ordinary move I think they would be fine, but I wouldn’t use them for treasured items and in my experience they take no responsibility for damage.

Terry Fergusson7:56 am 01 Dec 22

I can highly attest to Virgil Removals. Had the smoothest move using these guys. We had lots of boxes (over 100!!) and heavy cabinets, other assorted expensive King Furniture and a piano and they handled everything with care. The 2 guys I think their name was Pete and Rami were nice and polite and we had a laugh throughout the day, great attitudes. Will be using you for me next move.

Amanda Klingberg5:28 pm 18 Nov 22

I would use Virgil Removals again if you paid me! They are the worst removalists I’ve had in 17 house moves. They underestimated the truck size needed, broke and scratched furniture, put holes in the walls of our new house, smoked and vaped in the back of the truck and while unloading the truck, and took an hour for lunch while we paid them hourly. The worst was when they side swiped my family’s car on the street, breaking a mirror off and smashing it. The head office refuses to reimburse us for any of this despite their damages policy. Steer clear of this shonky business.

Kenny and Leanne Rodgers10:23 pm 17 Oct 22

CBR Removalists were a team of professionals and their business works like clockwork. Calling around you deal with many different voices and information and some company’s try to confuse an old duck like me. What I liked about CBR Removalists was they were polite and explained everything quickly and clearly. We had no hesitation in choosing them and whilst I hope you never move again I would use the again in a heartbeat if I had to.

Terry Madden8:32 am 08 Oct 22

I can definitely attest to Virgil Removals being a great, efficient and professional company right from their Head Office to the ground staff (removalists). Speaking first hand as we used their service yesterday. Head Office is clear and polite and knowledgable, and the removalists sure knew what they were doing, that was very evident from the get go. Wrapping things carefully, stacking in the truck with care, hard working and very gentlemen-like.

Quality Removals was fast, efficient, careful, knowledgeable. They measured doors, disassembled and reassembled the couch as needed, etc. They didn’t require oversight, and they were friendly and respectful of our space(s). They just got right into the work, and they worked well with our friends who were helping.

I chose them because of good reviews and can definitely confirm that everything positive in the reviews was true.

We recently moved from our family home of 40 years to a 3 bedroom unit in Greenway. We booked with a very professional lady named Fiona at CBR Removalists. Our entire experience was great and we would not hesitate to use anyone else other than CBR Removalists. Their team did our packing, moving, assembling all furniture and took all unwanted items to the tip. I am a very happy customer.

Ted Reynolds6:46 am 12 Aug 22

I must say how impressed with Canberra Removalists my wife and I were after using their service yesterday. Fiona from the office was lovely and very thorough and comprehensive with information, pricing and the truck size options. We actually got quotes from all the removalists on this page as we came straight here when we were looking for reputable removalists. And we were the most impressed with Canberra Removalists. Fiona’s husband and son were the two that did my move, so it definitely did feel like a family run business. They were both really nice and professional guys who were very good at handling all our furniture and moving requirements. I cannot sing the praises enough of everyone I dealt with in the comapny, so here’s a big thank you for everything with our move.
Ted & Claire Reynolds.

Todd Goldenberg2:00 pm 21 Jul 22

I was ultra impressed with the service Virgil Removals provided for my wife and I yesterday. The company is very organised and thorough and inevitably highly professional. I was very careful when I chose them, I called a number of different movers in Canberra and Virgils impressed us the most. We were award the service provided by the office can be different to that of the ground staff (in this case, the removalists) so we were aware of that. However, the removalists were hard working men. You can see they are very well trained by the head office and put their head down and work hard with a good attitude. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for a great team and service for the pending move.

I am afraid that our experience with Virgil Removals was entirely different to most of the reviews below.

We had an awful experience and do not recommend that you use this company.

Nat O'Rourke2:11 pm 11 Jun 22

We are fresh off a move conducted by Virgil Removalists. Our experience was very pleasurable. They were flexible with the start time, they booked us mid morning to fit in with our daycare drop off of our son. They removalists worked hard and carefully throughout the day, and on the other end, they set our sons room up first because they were working into the night and at least he had somewhere to settle whilst the moving was still taking place in the evening. A friendly, considerate and respectful company.

Ricardo Hoist7:07 am 10 May 22

I cannot speak highly enough for Virgil Removalists. The process was made so streamlined from the time of booking to the time the Removalists arrived and finished the job. Everything was well run, organised – it ran like clockwork. A very professional and well ran organisation.

We booked with Virgil Removals to move my elderly mum who has dementia to a nursing home. The company was so helpful and compassionate. I would have rang 10 times before the move (after we booked) to ask questions and they always made us feel heard and answered our questions very patiently. They were professional and organised. The 2 staff today were equally as organised and compassionate. They turned up with boxes and tap, boxed and packed mums entire house. The nursing home made them do RAT tests to enter the Home, and nothing was too much for these guys, and the owner even stopped by to make sure the move was going smoothly. When you think moving, I urge you to do what I did and book Virgil Removals.

I would like to publicly thank Virgil Team for their impressive job on our move. 5 bedroom home that we have lived in for 30 years, a lot of boxes and furniture. Thank you, thank you!

Cynthia Lamshield5:41 pm 23 Mar 22

After one of the removalists on this page (won’t mention names!! but really angry) didn’t turn up when we booked them, we called Virgil Removalists as an emergency as we needed to be out because we had settlement the same day. Virgil Removalists were really sympathetic and they were booked out but the man in the office said he will call his customers and see if he can shuffle some things around… he called me back 20 mins later and managed to move one customer to the evening, and squeezed our important move in and had a truck and movers at my house within 1 hour!! For a company to go above and beyond like that, i was really appreciative of and will tell anyone how good these guys were.

Mohidi Kovano8:17 am 19 Mar 22

I need move house and work colleague suggest Virgil Removals so I book them and they move me in apartment from Braddon to Turner and very good know what they doing and careful not to scratch anything and take care of furniture very well. i only sign 12 month lease and have to move again because owner want to move in after so i need move in 12 months time again and will defantely use Virgil removals then to.

Ida Isandespha11:01 am 10 Mar 22

I want to move, then I end up in here to get good recommendation removal. Many people say Virgil is good so I call Virgil removal. I was so upset because the CS so rude to me. He don’t want explain anything and very rude.

Christian Ward8:02 am 08 Mar 22

Virgil Removals are the goods. We had a convoluted move, multiple drop off locations, main items from our house to storage for a week before our new house settled. Then from storage to our new house. Ian handled it all. The guys were careful, quick and efficient. Put all our beds together and were timely, and courteous and superb guy. I hope I do not need to move anytime soon, but if I do, I would use only Virgil Removals again.

Malcolm Ronald Davis6:00 pm 06 Mar 22

Leaders have handled a number if removals for me, from the Gold Coast to Canberra, within Canberra, and for my parents, Bronwen and Ron, within Canberra. They have always been highly professional and efficient, flexible in terms of accomodating the customer’s needs, and pleasant to work with. Leaders is the best removalist experience we’ve had, and we’d always come back to them. Forget the rest – Leaders is the best.

Susan Stevens1:41 pm 24 Feb 22

Definitely use Virgil removals the experience we had with them Monday was terrific.

Booked with Virgil Removals and I am utterly blown away. I changed the date 2 times as my settlement date kept changing, this was not an issue for the office. They would send new booking confirmation numbers each other, and the removalists were such hard workers. There was nothing they didn’t do, the helped pack for me, moved pot plants, a large trampoline and swing set in the backyard, took beds apart and put them back together – the day went perfect thanks to Virgil.

Virgil Removals move us embaassy, big job in Yarralumla to O’Malley, very good company, do good price and beautiful service with office very professional and boys in the truck very helpful and good i do recommend Virgil Removals.

Leader removals were fantastic, well priced, professional team, will use again without worry or hesitation

ABSOLUTEY DO NOT BOOK WITH VIRGIL. Don’t bother getting a booking time or a quote because they’ll be super late and then try and charge you more. Completely incompetent. I booked for 1pm. I called and called and called and nothing. Eventually at 1:30 they finally call me to say they’d just finished the job before AND THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE LUNCH, so they’ll be there about 2:30. What’s the point of booking a time at all? Completely utterly incompetent. Don’t waste your own time. They arrived 1 and a half hours late, smoking, not wearing masks. My couch now smells musty and gross. I asked them to wrap it in the plastic couch protector I purchased and despite having a 2 seater couch and the protector being 2-3 seater they said it “didn’t fit”. And now my couch smells. It started raining and they took my $2300 tv out in the rain without wrapping it. It had grimy hand marks all over it. My washing machine is now leaking. JUST COMPLETELY AVOID. They’re not worth your time or money. They’ll be more of a headache than a help. And moving is stressful enough.

Yesterday was the 7th time my family and I have moved in 10 years. We did thorough research this time and made sure we contacted many locals removalists. We booked a pack and move with Virgil Removals whom we felt were most professional on the phone. And on the staff, the ground staff (the removalists) were as good and professional as the Office were. We have 4 kids, 6 bedroom home, and a lot of stuff. The pack and move went better than we could ever imagine. If you’re looking for a removalist who are professional, polite, effective with time, and take care of your belongings – then book Virgil Removals for your next move.

MaryanneSlatte18:31 am 12 Dec 21

I booked CBD Movers 3 weeks in advance and paid a deposit. When the truck was late, I phoned the company, was ‘disconnected’ twice and after 45 minutes, was told the truck wasn’t available and the earliest they could book me in was in 2 weeks.
Note: they did not tell me this until I called them.
They did not try to offer an alternate truck of removalist company.
I phoned many other removalists trying to get another truck who all told me that CBD Movers have a reputation for cancelling on clients at the last minute.
Worst company ever.

I wanted to get on and thank the entire team at Virgil Removals who did our move yesterday. You guys are so professional, we have a heap of antique furniture, paintings, crystal ornaments. Virgil Removals put all out beds together we will so impressed I want to recommend these guys looking for a stress free and professional move!

david Ashton9:35 am 23 Nov 21

I booked with Virgil removal and regret it greatly.
The confirmation booking email had a 1300 number on it, with no response on day of moving.
No response to email confirming 900am booking 2 days prior.
At 9am on the day of the move contacted by Removalist with different company name, who then changed to Virgil when I questioned. Removalist said they could not start until 3pm rather than 9am booking due to completing move from prior day.
Avoid Virgil like the plague.

Virgil Removals9:58 am 13 Dec 21

Hi Dave,
We’re sorry you’re so disgruntled that we had to push your start time back 4-5 hours that you need to get on every platform to vent. As we explained, we have a contact with the AFP where we (sometimes) do emergency moves for victims of Domestic Violence. This was the reason behind our delayed start time for your job. We realised our AFP contracted move was going to take all day, so we organised one of our other trucks to go to your job as soon as they finished their morning job. How reassuring it was to have my move done today by Virgil Removals, a company whom takes the utmost care with your belongings and does it with a smile on their face. From the time I emailed, I received a prompt and clear email back. I rang to make the booking and spoke to a very helpful and nice gentleman. The movers today were equally as good. I will be recommending any who moves to use Virgil Removals.

We used Virgil Removals for our move and I was massively impressed with these guys. I had to move as a matter or priority due to domestic violence. Virgil Removals were booked out Saturday but came at 6am on Sunday as they knew I was anxious about getting moved with my kids. They were aware of the situation, they were polite and courteous and I urge anyone who wants a professional and quality removal company to call Ian and the team at Virgil Removals.

My husband and I were thoroughly impressed with Capital Removal whom we used for our 5 bedroom move on Saturday. They did a pack and move as we are time poor so we did not have to lift a finger. The organisation is very professional, they replied to my initial email very promptly. Once I had questions, which they willingly answered and I proceed to make a booking, they sent a booking confirmation number. The movers and packers on the day made contact with me prior to arrival, and on the job they were very respectful and professional.

Hi there! Can I ask how much this packing and moving service cost? My family are also wildly time poor and will need this same moving package.
Thanks ??

We were appalled by the service offered by ACT Movers. Our experience was they offered to assist us, then were non-responsive, then withdrew all assistance. We ended up wasting 1 week because of their approach.
In our estimation this is not a responsible company and, in the end, we were so thankful we did not end up engaging them.

We were absolutely impressed with the services provided by ACT Movers. From the moment of the first online enquiry via their easy to read & access website, we received an email response very quickly, with everything we needed to know. I called to make our booking & the staff were excellent, with clear & concise communication skills.
I felt confident with the move going ahead as there was a confirmation email sent as well as reminder email the afternoon before the move. Everything went smoothly on the day of the move, with the staff arriving on time, in uniform & very attentive to our needs. I have since learned that ACT Movers also do office relocations and I have booked them again for our office relocation. I highly recommend this team for any move large or small. They are not the cheapest moving company, but they absolutely go above & beyond. You really get a quality job with little stress! Cheers Nic

A huge shoutout to the team at Capital Removal who helped my elderly parents downsize from their house of 40 years. My parents were extremely anxious about everything, but we were assured we were in good hands with the team at the office, and this showed on the day with the team on the days. Zeke and Mitch were phenomenal. They did a pack and move which was a massive task in itself, with 40 years of accumulated belongings. They moved and unpacked at the other end and I cannot put in towards how thankful we are with the job, to see my parents happy and not stressed at completion was a good feeling. Thank you!!

Hi there! I also need a packing/ moving service – just wondering how much they charged your parents for the double package?

When most people think of a removalist, they think of moving house, but what happens when you need to move your business? Complex moves require a level of expertise and care especially when dealing with expensive infrastructure, and for this reason, I would highly recommend Leader Removals and Storage. Their attention to details and their level of care is far beyond what you would expect from a removalist. The team at Leader Removals take the time to do the job right ensuring your office move is a smooth as possible.

Leader Removals exceeded my expectations on three occasions in less than 6 months during Covid. Pack up my place while I was away. All into storage. Delivery and unpack. Nil missing or broken. All on time – with great rates and clear and concise communication. I referred them for two other moves where the results were the same yet requirement much more complex. Highly recommend Fran, Andrew and the Team.

I had a unique move where I had old, antique furniture and we required the move and pick up to be 3 locations. Capital Removal were really transparent and easy to deal with and the move went very smoothly. Highly recommended!

We used Carmen Greens to move from Canberra to Sydney. They were absolutely brilliant. Just so professional. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were flexible and accommodating to all requests. Always on time. They were also quite reasonably priced.

We recently used the team at Capital Removal for our move. Moving house can be stressful and we have had some ordinary experiences in the past with our removals companies but the team at Capital Removal were great. I booked over the phone and had lots of questions and the owner Scotty was great to deal with as were the team who helped us move on the day.

I just moved house last week, and used ACT MOVERS, they were very professional from the moment of the booking, every detail was taken care of in their email correspondence which helped make the move so much easier. The staff were always contactable by phone or email and knew all the details of my complicated move. The truck showed up on time, well equipped and the workers were very experienced and polite. After a quick chat with the driver I discovered the secret of good service in this industry is to not overbook jobs as other companies tend to do. So, if you are lucky enough to get a spot with these guys for your move, there is nothing to worry about. They really take the stress out of moving.

We just moved between Camberra suburbs with Mitchell Family Removals. Can’t speak highly enough of them. Colin and Gary worked twelve hours straight with no lunch break; they were friendly, professional and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

I moved 10 times in 12 years and finally settled in my forever home. My wife and I agreed to go with the bigger companies, We just figured they would be a safe bet… each move was a new experience but unfortunately, it was worse than the last.
From scratched floors, cracked stairs, marks and holes on walls, ripped carpet, damaged and broken furniture. One company reversed into my house and knocked a corner wall down. Another crew had a fight amongst themselves on our driveway.
I couldn’t believe the lunacy we were paying to see. We do laugh about it now.
I asked my real estate agent if he knew of any good removalists, he suggested White Knight. They also came highly recommended to us in Melbourne as we were looking to move back to Canberra. Though at that time we regrettably went with another company.
Since then, White Knight has moved us 4 times. Matt (the owner) has packed our stuff away in the truck in one go every time, my wife and I couldn’t believe it, it is impressive to see. Above all, nothing has ever been damaged.
I can assure you, guys like this are hard to find.
Thanks for everything White Knight.

We recently relocated from just outside the ACT to western Sydney. Colin and Garry from Mitchell Family Removals did a stellar job. The level of care and consideration was amazing; they looked after our (mountain of) belongings as you would if it were the Mona Lisa. Everything packed onto the truck(s) with precision, and wrapped and stacked to prevent damage. We highly recommend them!!

Hi, We recently booked our move with ACT Movers http://www.actmovers.com.au – BEST MOVE EVER!
We booked in advance & the guy on the phone (Yesu?) was very helpful, gave us very good advice for getting ready before the move & for on the day of the move. Yesu called me the night before to
confirm booking & made sure we were still good to go. The guys arrived on time, got started straight away, took very good care of our items & genuinely cared about making our move swift & successful. Not only that they were clean, sensibly dressed, did not stop for cigarette breaks or any break for that matter! They even helped us disassemble 2 beds! We will be recommending ACT Movers to anyone & we will definitely be using them for our next move

I’d like to second this recommendation. I used ACT Movers service recently and it’s very nice experiences. The two guys arrived on time. They treated the items very carefully. The minimum booking was for two hours and not cheap, but I’m happy with their services. Highly recommended!

G&K Removals. No hesitation recommending these guys. I’ve moved a lot and used heaps of removalists but I won’t use any others since finding these guys for my last two moves. Both times the guys earned themselves a case of beer from me. Even though they charge by the hour they move fast, but nothing got broken both times they’ve moved me. (And no, I don’t work for G&K Removals ;))

Very negative I know, but as a defence member with multiple moves under my belt, they are all as BAD as each other.

Just use one of the bigger names if you afford it.

The other tip is don’t stress, moving is a terrible process, just let it happen, worry and stress wont improve it.

Um, don’t DHA and TOLL organise defence removals, including pre pack, storage, transport and unpack. This is not only free for defence members but they also recieve a bunch of allowances including a disturbance, travel, accomodation allowance. All you have to do is fill out the itinerary? That would have to be the least stressful move I have ever heard of.

Montagne. Great guys, good price, very careful.

I used Capital Removals back in December and while it was only a small move (one small truck and a couple of hours work), I was really impressed with their work and prices.

We used ACT MOVERS to move our house on February, they were great. Very friendly and polite guys, Good price and really careful and professional. Fully recommended.

I can highly recommend Mitchell Family Removals.
We recently relocated a disability service from one site in Canberra to another. Colin and Gary from Mitchell Family Removals were fantastic and great to work with. They were hard working and really helpful, and showed incredible patience as we had clients accessing both sites.

I had a great experience with White Knight Transport in April 2014 for a local move between suburbs. They were professional, careful with our stuff, and worked hard. The price was competitive were the second cheapest of five quotes that I received. Sometimes there are reasons not to go cheap. My move was more difficult than they anticipated because of poor street access, and I am appreciate their effort. (Just an aside: I wouldn’t book an afternoon move with any mover because the first job of the day can take longer than expected and that throws off their schedule.)

One firm I would NEVER recommend is Grace Removals. I paid extra by using them as I thought their reputation was good. The move from Canberra to Newcastle proved this wrong. One damaged lounge and smashed statue says otherwise. Paying upfront you don’t have much recourse. Efforts to settle my claim have met with lack of service and almost no communication on their part.

OK, here’s something you don’t see everyday on Riotact, positive feedback.

We used White Knight last week for our move and are very happy. We were quoted on both an hourly rate and an estimate based on the amount of furniture etc we had with what ever works out cheapest being what we’ll pay. They also recommended three guys would be best for our move.
Lee, Quentin and Karl turned up right on time, were very friendly, took a look through the house and suggested two trips would be quickest rather than packing everything in one trip.

Two loads and under five hours later a large three bedroom house and garage full of crap was transported to another three bedroom house with garage with a minimum of fuss and zero damage or breakages. Admittedly it was neighbouring suburbs but that does not detract from the great job they did. The boys also helped out with moving some existing furniture in the new place to different rooms.

If you’re looking to move, White Knight Removalists come highly recommended from this rioter.

Wanted to bump this thread and would prefer to see positive comments from regular posters rather than non regulars of you know what I mean…
Urchin, Mighty Joe, how did you go?

I’m quite pastoral to him myself.

+1 for White Knight Transport. We moved between suburbs in ACT his month and it was quick and easy.

I’ll give feedback on Whiteknight shortly, i’ve booked them for a move within the next 3 weeks.

Have you had your move yet MightyJoe? We’ll be in need of a removalist also soon and have been solicited by Whiteknight and Chess.

I had a very good experience with Chess Removals. All my furniture was individually wrapped in packing blankets and carefully loaded and unloaded. Not one single scratch anywhere. They also arrived on time!

I’ll give feedback on Whiteknight shortly, i’ve booked them for a move within the next 3 weeks.

Actually that is the precise company we used when we moved here from Japan. they were amazing and incredibly careful with our stuff (moreso than we are). i know not to expect anything on that level here but would prefer a company that won’t go out of its way to break stuff. last time we moved within canberra we got a broken tv and a broken washing machine out of it… :-/

anyway, thanks for the recommendations all – i will get estimates from those mentioned. much appreciated!

Are you mocking me? I mean no one on this blog ever says thanks to me.

Carmen Green, they did a fantastic job of our last move and charged by the hour with no hidden charges. They were the first removalists who worked out the huge recliner couch came apart which meant unlike previous removals the door frames didn’t cop a beating.

I was very happy with Carmen Green too; however my last move was 10 years ago. I also wanted to store quite a bit of stuff while I had work done on my new place: that was no trouble and, again, not too expensive.

I’ve used them twice in recent years and found them good. But it would very much depend on who you get on the day. Also, I’m probably not that particular about my stuff so my main concern is speed and cost.

Allied Pickfords did a great job last time I used them. Very quick, good price and importantly, zero damage.

Tell me more? I’m about to move house soon and was hoping to use them to move the heavier items while I did the rest.

You are looking for a careful removalist in Canberra? Heh, good luck! Hard to find. What annoys me is most, it is mostly luck of the draw, depending on who is on the job at the time.

Anyway, if I had to tout one, I would go with one in particular, Beethoven Piano Movers. Despite the name, they do more than just pianos – they are bona fide heavy lifters and they are actually careful with your stuff. Yes, regardless of who is on the job at the time, they are well trained and actually take careful pride in their work.

btw, let us know how you get on.

(Whatever you decide, just steer clear of the ones that hack up a lung while you are on the phone with them, no matter how cheap they are.) Bad experiences_R_Us.

Can’t recall who we used about 10 years ago in Tuggers, but I do recall the guy who came to give the quote commented that we had nice furniture and that they would do certain things to protect it, for instance wrapping the legs of a piece of furniture to stop any scratches. When it came to moving the things none of this eventuated, and whilst we got through unscathed, I remember it as a lesson to ensure they do what they say for the money they will charge.

I suggest White Knight Transport. They’ve moved me 4 times now. They achieved a great job every time. Punctual, careful, efficient and I think relatively cheap.

Mitchell Family Removals may do local. I have used them to move household goods twice to SE Qld with good results both times and no breakages. Personal service. I’d use them again.

OT but in keeping with the political climate at the moment. I remember on election night 1996 – when Keating and Labor were defeated – Tower Removalists parked their truck outside The Lodge. It was a bit more imaginative than what happened in Brisbane last year when a fat lady sang The Carnival Is Over outside State Parliament the night Labor was wiped off the electoral map.

Steer clear of two men and a truck. Used to be good but recent experience proves otherwise
