Paid parking for the Hyatt and Kingston

Those working or visiting in and around the Hyatt Hotel and Kingston will need to factor in parking costs from July 1.

Although the Parliamentary Triangle paid parking in Parkes, Barton, Russell and Acton is delayed until at least September, the ACT Government will proceed in the introduction of paid parking for the Hyatt and Kingston as originally planned.

This will primarily affect the Hyatt Hotel car park and the Kingston cultural precinct, adjacent to the Glassworks.

Has anyone else noticed that Parliment House is within the NCA boundary yet the parking at the back and underneath has been excluded from paid parking. Why are these people getting a break and not us?

Oh come on banco, you should all be more amenable and understanding and give the ACT Gov’t credit where its due.

In this case, they are clearly trying to raise more revenue to meet upcoming debts incurred by their economic “stimulus” program that there is no evidence is actually needed right now, for things like the big boys toy train set, spending more $ now to expand things like the jail and womens/childrens hospital that they were told were too small when originally built (additions being more expensive than if they were built the right size, originally), more MLAs, silly incentives to retrenched public servants to set them up as “consultants” (like, there is a shortage of consultants in Canberra…..?), skywhales, makeup of ACTEWs loss of Revenue to the ACT Gov’t budget, proposed tax on many Contractors (see other thread on RiotAct) which may raise a few bucks but will act to dampen down retail demand, to cover the interest bill on borrowings caused by the ACT budget deficit ’cause this Gov’t does not know the meaning of “living within it’s means”, etc, etc.

Gee…..to assist the ACT Gov’t in their quest to save us all from impending economic doom, I’m more than happy to see my Annual Rates potentially triple over the next 11+ years (aka claims by ACT Lib’s), my parking charges and car rego charges become even more expensive each year, to drive on roads cheaply resealed with boulders covered in sprayed on tar, to pay much more for water charges to cover the cost blow out of the dam extension and because we conserved water use during the drought (so ACTEW-W apparently “lost” revenue), etc. Yep – more than happy to do my bit.

The end result is of course, in addition to the dampening down of consumer demand caused by the Feds hitting Canberra’s economy, the ACT Gov’t policies, fee and Rates increases, etc, will dampen down retail demand even more in Canberra.

Yep – makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for saving us all Katy, Andrew, Shane, Simon, etc. I’m sure your efforts will be remembered !

Yep, and imagine how much parking will cost when you have to wait an hour to get a burger from Brodburger……….
