Parking mayhem on Constitution Avenue

If you walk along Constitution Avenue on working days, you’ll know what I am talking about.

The small free car park tucked in between the $5/day and the construction site is an eyesore and an accident waiting to happen. Cars are shoved everywhere: along the entrance alleys, on kerbs, on the nature strip, I can’t wait for someone hanging one from a tree.

I reckon if a parking inspector had a look it would make them a bundle to book everyone parked along a red kerb or on the nature strip.

What about walking 200m further and parking decently beyond Anzac Parade? Plenty of free parking there!

Wait… right… there’s 200 metres more to walk… lazy tight arses!

I believe the area in question is privately owned or something and can’t be touched by the brown bombers. Some of those who arrive too late for a spot in the golden zone (It’s all full by 7 a.m.) park on the edges/entrance points in a futile attempt to ‘merge’ with the ‘in’ crowd and get picked off by the parkies.

Love ’em or hate ’em, parkies do keep areas they can enforce neat and tidy.

Canberrans strangely, see parking (almost anywhere) as their god given right. Think of any major event – Sky Fire, Australia Day etc Its like Mad Max

I’ve often thought that the parking situation in Canberra is like Mad Max.

totally agree, you don’t see it happen anywhere else in australia – not in my experience anyway. people think they can just park anywhere here, it’s crazy!

Hm. A New South Welshman (given the Qbn Gal name) putting shame on ACT Health? Shouldn’t you ah, worry about the NSW health system? Hm?

I might agree with you if the person was from somewhere else in NSW, but given what Queanbeyanites contribute to our community and economy, I think they can comment on our public systems.

And TCH is going to get worse when construction starts. Maybe the Governments way of making more easy revenue – hit the sick and feeble. As it is, the disabled have to walk a long way from the car park to much of the hospital. Shame on you ACT Health

People parking on curbs, nature strips, traffic islands, the lawns of Parliament House, 1m from the Lake Burley Griffin shore. It’s Canberra no one gives a rats. Your more than welcome to have the parking inspectors (or parking nazi’s as we refer to them) from The Canberra Hospital… there’s stacks of them that wander around here, ticketing cars of sick people who are probably stuck inside waiting 5 hours for treatment.

Wow, didn’t see that post… I guess I’ve been lucky not to be flamed yet.
On the other hand I wasn’t whinging about a parking fine

People do get booked in this carpark! Even some people from RiotACT! See the link from September below.

Perhaps a picture or a google map link would help us empathise with your concern.

Hey, does anyone know a parking inspector? With the recession and all, it would be swell for him/her to rack up at least a couple of grand in parking fines with little to no effort 😉

Good call Sol
