A 21-year-old Palmerston man will face the ACT Magistrates Court after being caught performing burnouts in Mitchell last month.

On Monday January 21, police received a complaint of a red Holden Commodore performing burnouts in the Gungahlin area.

Later that day, police viewed footage of a vehicle matching the description performing a burnout in Baillieu Court, Mitchell.

The footage had been posted by the registered owner of the vehicle to his Facebook account.

Police seized this vehicle after a burnout video was posted to Facebook

Police subsequently identified and seized the vehicle. The man will face court on March 12.

Last night (Tuesday February 5) police also seized a white Holden Commodore utility after the driver performed a burnout in Benjamin Way, Belconnen. This driver will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations Rod Anderson condemned the behaviour.

“This type of anti-social conduct has no place on Canberra roads. Our community won’t tolerate it, and neither will police. We’ll use every measure at our disposal to deter hoons – including seizing their cars” A/Supt Anderson
said.

Under Section 5 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999, police may seize vehicles for offences of street racing, speed trials, burnouts and menacing driving. Vehicles can be seized for up to 90 days for a first offence and may be seized and forfeited to the Territory for a second offence if so ordered by the court.

Police urge anyone who witnesses anti-social or dangerous driving to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au

Several things, such as screaming out “I have a small penis” or complaining that regular sized condoms are too big.

Maybe complaining that you need to stand too close to the urinal? Not sure.

I’m sure there are plenty of people with small penises who don’t do burnouts. What is your issue with people that have small penises?

That said, i’m sure there are plenty of guys with average and large sized penises who do burnouts too. It’d be silly to assume that only men with small penises do burnouts. What a silly post, Ben.

Ben’s right. Numerous peer reviewed university studies have proven beyond doubt that the majority of burnout drivers have micro-penises. Average length while erect is about 3.8 cm, IIRC. These blokes are the origin of the phrase “Hung like a cashew”. There was an article on this subject in Nature a few months ago…

I had a really good time reading this comment. Laughed a lot.

Nope. Nothing. Might as well put a big sign on your ride that says “Penile Challenged Driver On Board” or something like that.

I must say that the news of this clown hoisting himself on his own petard induced sensations of actual physical pleasure in me. It was like when you are overtaken on the way to the coast by some lunatic who puts you and your family at risk of death or injury, and then a few minutes later you see him parked by the side of the road in front of the man with the flashing lights. Sweet sweet stuff. If only more of these arrogant morons posted their actions on the internet…

Does anything scream “I like buying new tyres” louder than doing burnouts?

Jane Doe, you are an absolute idiot!

The guy stuffed up, yes he obviously made a stupid mistake. After losing his car, licence, paying court costs, fines, etc. I’m sure he won’t do it again.

Making remarks like “He could have done a burn out back in time to stop his mother and father from meeting.” makes me question your maturity. Bit harsh I would say.

You must be perfect, I guess you have never made a mistake in your life either… Somehow I doubt it.

Have a lovely day 🙂

Thank you connno, my day has been lovely.

The way I see it, this person has made two mistakes. One was doing the burnout and the second was posting it on Facebook. Since you only see that he has only made one mistake, which one of my two examples was not a mistake?

While certainly not one to calim perfection, being far from it indeed. If our dear friend in the Red Commodore is the main culprit of the burnouts that have been going on in Palmerston, it’s hardly “a” stupid mistake. The burnouts have happened a couple of dozen times in the past 2 months.

By all means, if you wish to do burnouts, make loud noises and wear out your tyres, go do it at a race track or on a mates bit of property in the country, but suburban streets are not the place for it.

If the young fella only did it once, posted it to facebook and got caught, then perhaps you are right, the loss of licence, car and significant fines may deter him from ever doing it again.

Either way, our young driver is an inconsiderate twat and i’m sure his parents are rather disappointed in him, though perhaps not to the extent that theyt wish he wasn’t born.

I bet this guy wished he was driving a delorian. He could have done a burn out back in time to stop his mother and father from meeting. Of course that would have robbed us of our next Tuckwell scholarship recipient

But he may have been genius enuff to spell genius properly, not genious.

Has anyone seen a mention of a newish blue Ford / Holden doing a donut in Chisholm Norris St a few Saturdays ago, coz it was as funny as hell. He lost it and piled into a tree just before I turned into the street. I guess the cops were called as all the neighbours were piling out to have a squiz at the genious.
What got me he was no teenager, have to be late 20’s.

A Commodore you say…doing burnouts…I don’t believe it…

Glad the little prick got his comeuppance. Been plenty of burnouts done down Kosciusko in Palmerston over the last month and it’s been darn annoying. Well done to whoever managed to get sight of the car to identify it to police and extra congratulations to the driver who was smart enough to post it on facebook :/
