Adelaide’s Hey Harriett kick off the gigging week with a set at Smith’s Varietal #164. Their new EP Nipslip is full of bright, breezy indie rock and catching them live on Wednesday, alongside Teenage Joans, is the perfect antidote to those mid-week blues.

Also on Wednesday, New Orleans pianist Jon Cleary hits The Playhouse with his band The Absolute Monster Gentlemen. Based on our conversation last month, you can expect the show to be something of a masterclass in blues, funk and New Orleans attitude.

Gareth Liddard’s noise rock four-piece Tropical F–k Storm have a name that kind of says it all: if you’re put off by crunchy, loud, somewhat abrasive art-rock, then this band may not be for you. However, if any of the above descriptors pique your interest, then you owe it to yourself to catch these national treasures live when they play at Kambri on Friday night.

Elsewhere, Thursday night sees local favourites Paint Store and Dog Name supporting Lachlan X Morris at sideway, and you can see Babyfreeze partaking in whatever an ‘ElectroPunk Wellness Club’ is on Saturday in the Haig Park Bubble.
