Shane Rattenbury has announced his share of the spoils of victory:

New ACT Greens Minister and Member for Molonglo, Shane Rattenbury, said today that he was honoured to accept responsibility for the Ministries of Territory and Municipal Services, Corrections, Housing, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, and Ageing.

“I accepted the offer to be a Minister because of my desire to bring a strong Green voice to the Ministry and continue to improve life in our city for all Canberrans,” said Mr Rattenbury.

“I’m feeling very positive about the opportunities I have to do this through these portfolios, which span a range of social and environmental issues.

“Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) provides many of the services that Canberrans enjoy daily, such as building and maintaining paths and roads, libraries and waste management. It also manages Canberra’s urban and natural environment, such as nature parks, playgrounds and streetscapes.

“My goal will be to deliver these local Government services effectively and efficiently, as well as to continue improvements and innovate in key areas.

“The Greens-Labor Parliamentary Agreement sets out several exciting areas for progress in TAMS, such as improved buses and progressing light rail, enhancing biodiversity protection in Canberra’s nature parks and on rural lands, and cleaning up Canberra’s lakes.

Interesting to see Katy Gallagher give up the “Mayor” role that comes with TAMS.

We’ll let you know when we get the rest of the Ministry list.

I would suggest the Labor party just shuts up shop altogether because they no longer exist as a separate entity. Maybe to keep up the facade of being a different party they can change their name to Green Lite because that is all they are. Even the CFMEU are deserting Labor judging by their donations to The Greens.

and this comment has to do with this post, what exactly??

have you considered that the greens have become more aligned with labor ideals as they have adapted to the realities of politics, rather than the other way round? your boys are in opposition again, suck it up and do try to do better…

I looked up decimated just for my own confirmation – slaughtered, annihilated. Seems to fit.

BTW, is anyone bothered that CM has kept Health, (to finish the work that she has started apparently – because causing the level of chaos that eventuated is not enough obviously), and that Joy Lurch, sorry Burch, got Education – if I heard that correctly? Someone who stuffed up a portfolio pertaining to children, now looking after an even larger group?

Greens were worse than decimated.

decimated is losing one in 10, not 3/4.

well, in an obsolete usage, mebbe – generally accepted that ‘decimated’ is a good sized proportion from, well, over a century ago. get with the times, jb! 🙂

Yes, the Romans, who invented decimation, certainly knew how to deal with underperformers.

If you voted for Labor only you’d have a right to be a little pee’d off at this turn of events. Five ministries for the blow-in whose party was almost decimated? It goes more than a little appeasement for the Greens! Anyway, he’s got his work cut out. I’m sure his impending impression of headless chickeness will see them off altogether. Having said that, he’s the best of the bunch, and the major parties need some advice on environmental policy because they probably wouldn’t do it if left to their own devices.

Glad to hear it is a ‘Greens-Labor’ agreement and not a ‘Labor-Greens’ agreement.

Chief Minister’s talkback will consist of “I’ll pass that on to Shane Rattenbury wo is responsible for that”

Rattenbury is being described as “Canberra’s de facto Lord Mayor in Chief”. Good grief. Never let principle stand in the way of self-aggrandisement.

So because Rattenbury’s opponents, the Libs, call him the “Lord Mayor”, Rattenbury is self-aggrandising?

It’s like me calling you a half-wit, and then me criticising you for having such low self-regard.

Nice analogy 😀

Rattenbury is being described as “Canberra’s de facto Lord Mayor in Chief”. Good grief. Never let principle stand in the way of self-aggrandisement. Fancy the Greens sacrificing their independence for personal ambition, political expediency, and … Mayoral Robes. You’d think somebody would have told the Greens rats that lay down with dogs get up with fleas – and will disappear into oblivion at the next ACT election. At least it confirms what we’ve always known, and that is the Greens are the basket weaving branch of the ALP. Any thicker and they’d curdle.

Poisoned chalice? Cat-o’-five-tails?

I bet someone was jumping for “joy” to get rid of housing

tams-chats-yaaahhhh! there’s a job title to love…

So, basically, they’ve given everything crap to Shane. And I bet he’s glad he got a ministry and ousted the only Aboriginal MLA from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs portfolio.

Also, ACT Labor (The Canberra Times Branch) has the full ministry. Basically, a few different deackchairs, but the same Titanic.
