Women’s team sports in Canberra? (For a beginner)

Hi all,

I was hoping to find a women’s sports team to train with on weeknights or weekends. I haven’t played any team sports in a while but am keen to try something new while also meeting new people (I recently moved interstate).

I’ve had some trouble tracking down info for women wanting to get into a sport as complete beginners (most sports clubs I’ve looked up only seem to have information for experienced players or have little to no info on how to get started).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Dragon boating is good for beginners and they seem to always want new people.

Diamond Phoenix is a women’s club if that’s what you’re after. There are several other mixed clubs. They are always after new members at the start of the season.

If you’re after something a bit different, I recommend Gaelic football that meets Tuesday nights in Lyneham. I’m just joined up to the men’s team who train alongside the women and it’s great fun.

I used to also play table tennis which was always good fun but haven’t been for a while

Netball? They used to have a social type comp at Lyneham , but I think that whole complex is currently being rebuilt. Not sure if it’s running elsewhere. We used to play mixed but pretty sure they had a women’s only as well
