Identity of male sought in Civic assault

ACT Policing is seeking assistance to identify a man in relation to a serious assault which occurred outside the Academy Nightclub in Civic on Monday, 21 April.

Around 4.15am a group of males were speaking with a member of Academy Security who was asking one of them to leave.

While speaking with Security, an unknown man has intervened and escorted one of the males from the club before attempting to incite him and his friends into an altercation outside Academy Nightclub.

The group attempted to walk away however the male offender struck a member of the group in the head. The blow caused the victim to fall to the ground and hit his head on the pavement, rendering him unconscious.

ACT Policing and ACT Ambulance Service were called and arrived a short time later. ACT Ambulance Service conveyed the man to The Canberra Hospital suffering a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and other serious complications. He has since been discharged from hospital.

Police have made exhaustive enquiries but have been unable to identify the offender at this time.

The offender is described as Pacific Islander/Maori, aged in his late 20’s, approximately 185 – 188cm tall (6’1” – 6’2”), with a solid build, short dark hair and beard, with a tattoo on his neck.

Police are appealing for the offender or any person who may have information in relation to the offenders identity to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
